asmith0817 0 Posted December 8, 2006 I know I am suppose to use rg6u or rg59u, but I have a 35' run to do. I have a roll of rg6, not u. Am I making a huge mistake not running the u? It will not cross any power. I am installing in a huge attic and am going to tie the wire to the rafters away from all the power wires. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -ThaRooster
acableconnection 0 Posted December 21, 2006 The main difference with rg-6, rg-59 is the shielding, which you seem to know about. cctv has a copper shield and catv has an aluminum shield. Im sure it would work ok if you can get the connector on.
galen 0 Posted December 27, 2006 I have noticed that there are two grades of shielding. One is 80% and the other is 95%. My question is if you save on cost because of 15% less shielding does it have an effect on quality of picture? My logic is that you would use the 95% around high voltage. Thomas 0 Posted December 27, 2006 It depends on the signal strength of the camera and local sources of "noise". With 80% shielding your going to have issues over longer distances. Cable is going to be the absolute toughest thing to replace, and you never really know if something will get rerouted, or a new interferance source will be moved. I would just stick with the 95% braid.
