static 0 Posted December 11, 2006 Hi, newbie here. I am a system integrator for CCTV systems in Singapore. Recently, my company bought some China-Made IR cameras fitted with fixed focal length lens (6mm, 8mm, 12mm, 16mm) All the cameras are the same except for different lens and have 30 in-built IR LEDs. The cameras are meant to be installed in a warehouse. After installation, the cameras worked fine during the day time. However at night time, only cameras with the 12mm and 16mm lens worked. The images are abit snowy with noise but still visible. But the rest of areas covered by the cameras with 6 and 8mm lens are completely dark. I have gone down to return the faulty cameras (with 6and 8mm lens) to the supplier but was rejected. The faulty cameras were tested working fine in IR mode at their office. The test was conducted at their office walkway (the walkway was in an industrial building, enclosed area) I was told tat the area in the warehouse was too wide to be covered by the onboard camera IR LEDs..... The supplier was suggesting me to get an external illuminator with a wider angle of proj to solve the prob. (WTF it will increase my project costs) I hope to seek professional advise on what angle of IR projection should i use for 6mm and 8mm fixed focal lens. CollinR 0 Posted December 11, 2006 Sometimes it's cheaper to use lots of little HID lights, from your districption I see no need for convertness. Unless the customer specifically wants invisible light it's much cheaper and more reliable to use conventional lighting. You might be surprised by how little light the cameras need, 200w floodlights are pretty cheap and put out lots of light. Unfortunately they also draw more power, there is a tradeoff in the middle depending on the size of the warehouse. The reason with the lens is probably due to those cameras having a tighter beam and more power. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
static 0 Posted December 12, 2006 Hi CollinR, thank you for your advise. Currently, the areas affected are being luminated by the flood lights. My customer is not very statisfied with the explanation I gave mainly because the other cameras (those with 12mm and 16mm lens) are working fine at night but not the rest.
