realtime backup

Recommended Posts

is anyone using any kind of realtime backup? i wanted to keep a copy of the video away from the geo pc in case the pc is stolen or destroyed. i was thinking about setting the video location to a network drive, but i'm worried about performance.

what might work is something that would sync 2 folders every few minutes. then the video could be moved in almost realtime.

To avoid network bandwisth doing a network drive, put a second network card in the Geovision and use the control centre software that comes with Geo, it can send the video and record at another pc when motion occurs in front of the camera, simply enable the control centre feature on Geo and load it onto a second pc

I use USB drives...hide the box in a wall, behind a desk drawer, ect. All those wires are just wires to a thief and he won't go cable tracing to find the video storage. If he finds it in under 1 minute you were done from the inside!!!! Keep your mouth shut so your employee's don't know....even your managers are a risk. trust none in security as I have found out that even family can be thieves.

USB saves the network and gives you what you want. Just remember to work out the power issues. ie. I use only USB cases that have a 2.1mm power plug & 12vdc so I can power it via the camera power supply OR plug into the APC/UPS for back up power. Power goes out camera's stay on, along with the USB drive.

I'm a Video Insight guy so the methods with other PC based should be the same................set the video to be stored on the USB drive...........yes it is external, hide it.......it's safer then. let them walk off with the PC..........video storage is hidden.

I'm getting ready to put in another hard drive so the video can be written there as well.

Has anyone had success using the twin DVR system?

What I plan on doing is buying a wifi external hard drive and putting it in a secure location, then have GEO write to its local HDD as well as over the network to the wireless hard drive.

Depending on what model I find for the hard drive, the network speed will be anywhere from 10-108 MB. I'm hoping for something in the 48 MB/s range so the data will write correctly. (I'm not multicasting)

Has anyone attempted this sort of setup?

Or do you guys recommend the V2center over twindvr?
