Ok an update on Vista.

I was at a PC store today and tested my program on it ..

It was Vista Ultimate I think.

 

It actually worked, with a small workaround.

 

It errors when installing, probably just need an updated Vista installer, as the Registry no longer exists (as far as I was told), and it is probably using that. BUT, it does install.

 

Okay, so it will actually launch the first time you run it, and you can demo it fine. However, when you close it and try to reopen it, it gives an error, actually one of my own integrated errors. I wont be able to fix that until I have Vista here and in front of me though, so for next release I will do that.

 

Anyway, the workaround to this is ... there is another file in the same program folder as LiveVue, called Update.exe; its actually part of the LiveUpdate feature, which reloads LiveVue. Simply make a shortcut to that file on your desktop (right click Create Shortcut), delete the old LiveVue shortcut from the desktop (Dont delete LiveVue.exe from the program folder!), and rename that new one, LiveVue. Run this shortcut when you want to use the program, and it now loads fine every time.

Cool .. I didnt have time to really get into the OS but i did manage to download and run my program

 

PS. I didnt check the other features but they should work ..

Full screen worked .. I think the media shortcut on the desktop might not though (thats from saving images or video), will have to see.

Basically it should be a very simple fix when i do it.

BTW there is a new version of the installer i use, which covers Vista, but I may be using another installer anyway. Will see. I am getting ready to order parts and the OS for a new Vista machine, so I will be able to test that soon.

Work on the new software was put off due to illness and a death in the family, now it has commenced again. Motion detection is being left out for now until i receive the latest SDK from geo. Meanwhile I am pushing forward with all the other updated code and new features. Will post back here when there is something new to note.

 

Also, I will release an activeX wrapper which can be used in other software, as well as browser based apps. It will contain all the commands to create your own application without writing any of the detailed code.

What is overlay? I had a problem with a stand alone DVR. Remote viewer worked great on newer PC w/ XP SP2, but did not work on older computers. Client had a wide selection of computers so no trouble on this job. I saw in the begining of this post where you mentioned overlay. I tested an older comp in the shop w/ 2000. Updated video card, and MS update and remote viewer from distributor instead of disc.

 

Screen says something to this effect.

 

Video overlay not initialized....program is shutting down.

some video cards dont support overlay, mostly the cheaper and older cards.

with DVR software, its typically used for Full Screen (Direct Draw Overlay)

Also make sure you have an updated version of DirectX. (9.0 will suffice)

 

other than that, im no expert on it so will need to rely on that article above.

I like the product for myself. But I don't think my larger customers can use it because it is slow over wi-fi connections and pretty much won't ever connect. Both 802.11 and Verizon CDMA.

Hi, if anything that would be a limitation of Geo itself, their ActiveX Control, the same thing found in the Geo Browser Applications. I never had an issue over Wireless myself, at least once i had a good connection, never tried Verizon though.

 

One thing to remember though is that each single camera is a separate connection, thats the way Geo's ActiveX is and which is why it is so customizable.

I may have found another possible problem. It seems to not work when typing in a dns name for the server. Now I'm not sure if it's because it wants to see an IP address, or if it's because I have the DVR setup with a port 80 redirect through a dynamic DNS provider.

Most people are using DDNS with it, the majority of sites i test it with are DDNS names also.

 

Does the DDNS name you are using work in the browser app?

Not sure about the Port Redirect, never tried that.

Ill have to check that out some time .. Why a port redirect and not the normal DDNS setup? Port forwarding in a router to the DVR works, not sure why this wouldnt, can you send me a link to the software you are using for that? Thanks.

I have to do the port 80 redirect for my customers who are not going to use the software and use a browser. So some folks will use the LiveVue and others will use IE for the same DVR units. I'm using no-ip.com

It shouldnt matter, if you have webcam set to port 80, and the routers are port forwarded with port 80 to the DVR's internal IP, then in IE you just enter the DDNS name or IP address, no need to add a port number when using port 80, thats the default port. Unless im missunderstanding the port issue? Are you actually using a different port from port 80?

 

In LiveVue it will use whichever port is assigned in Geo. No need to set any ports there either.

No, no. Our local ISPs block inbound 80, so we have the webcam setup using something else. Instead of my users having to type this in at the end of the url I'm just using the port 80 redirect option with no-ip.

 

You software does work without the redirect in play, but with it turned on it seems to not work. Try using it to hit 2296dvr.sytes.net.

The reason this is a problem is because if we have to enter an IP address in the field of LiveVue we'll be screwed every time the IP changes.

 

If I remove the port 80 redirect from my no-ip setup then my IE users will have to type it in the browser.

Strange .. I can telnet to it and port 80 but doesnt work in LiveVue, neither in IE or Firefox ..

 

Question, do you have a router?

I really need to know the exact setup to understand it better, hardware/software used, and port numbers, static internal IPs, webcam settings.

 

Also make sure if you do have a router, 4550 is also port forwarded.
