GV-800 Help. Lost video / real time freeze - solved!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm having teething issues with a GV-800 card. Purchased a new PC according to the vendor's spec for the card and I have two technical issues.

Issue 1: With four cameras connected watching the real-time feed, I receive an intermittent 'Video Lost' signal that lasts for 5-20 seconds. The signal can occur for any camera, one or two at a time. Occurs about every five minutes.

Issue 2: Real time feed freezes and is jerky. Playback framerate is also lacking. Have played with the software settings to no avail.

I can't roll this system out in its current state so please help. Customer wants it ASAP. The card vendor isn't back until 8th Jan.

I haven't rolled out the system so it's setup next to me. I'm certain the issue is with the card or PC spec, not the cameras or cables.

PC specification:

Intel Core2 Duo E6400 LGA775 2.13GHz/2MB/1066FSB

MSI 945GM3 - Intel945GM3-F LGA775 GigabitLAN/2xDDR2533/667. Has Intel GMA950 graphics on board.

Antec PC case, Piano Black/Chrome

Elixir 512MB DDR-2 667MHz Lifetime warranty

WD Raid 24x7 YS 320GB SATAII 16MB/SATA/8.7ms/9.8ms

Sony 3.5" Floppy Drive BLACK

LG 16X+-Dual Layer DVR/RW Blk 16+R/16-R/8+RW/6-

RW/5RAM/6DLR

IEEE1394 4 port Low Profile Card

LG 17" LCD 8ms Silver LCD

1280x1024 @ 75Hz .264mm PP

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Jarrad.

Hi, doesnt seem right, those specs are way more than what the GV800 requires. Even with the onboard video, I just set up 2 DVRs using onboard GMA950 video, same amount of DDR2 ram, and they worked fine.

Id have to pin it down to either the drivers for the onboard video, or the hard drive.

Did you install the latest Intel Drivers from their website ..?

If you installed the Intel Accelerator app, get rid of that also.

You need the latest Intel Chipset drivers for that, and the latest Graphics Drivers.

Dont rely on MSI for the up to date drivers ..

Download from here. (XP Pro). Uninstall the old ones first if you installed them from the CD.

Here is the Chipset Update .. install this first

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2115&DwnldID=12150&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

Here is the Video Driver

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2115&DwnldID=12002&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

Also, is this XP Pro.. . or another? The above are for XP Pro (others also I believe).

If you install the latest drivers, and still have an issue, check the Bios and see what version it has, it may need a flash with a newer Bios.

Here is the latest Bios .. 5.1

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=756&kind=1

I had to update mine on the last 2 motherboards, though it was a PCI Express card issue .. but even though it didnt have anything related to that in the latest Update, there was a fix. I didnt update until they told me to do so .. it was an MSI and a Gigabyte Motherboard .. so not just MSI.

With MSI though you'll need to flash it from DOS .. read the instructions though as it differs from one Bios to the next. BAsically your's is an AMI Bios, and they basically say dont flash it from a floppy .. extract the Bios files to a folder on the C Drive, then boot into Dos with a bootable device, then switch to that folder and run the flash file.

Anyway .. maybe im going to far ahead right now ..

Though it may have something to do with the Core 2 Cpu also ..

Re: the Bios update thing .. see this page ..they also mention that for the 945 Chipset and that particular CPU ..

http://www.trustedreviews.com/cpu-memory/review/2006/07/14/Intel-Core-2-Duo-Conroe-E6400-E6600-E6700-X6800/p2

"In theory, Core 2 Duo should work in any 945/955/975 chipset motherboard. If this plan had executed smoothly then Intel's over-engineering could be forgiven as for once Intel wanted to make sure we weren't forced to shell out for new kit (shock horror!).

Unfortunately, as with many things, it didn't work out quite as well as planned. Many LGA775 motherboards are and never will be compatible with Conroe. Most will need a BIOS update. This sounds simple enough, but if you buy a board from a reseller that doesn't have a recent BIOS on it (perhaps older stock), you'll need a second pre-Conroe processor to be able to update the BIOS. However, the best example of this blunder is the fact that even Intel's own 975 desktop motherboard won't work with Conroe (unless you are prepared to do some rather fiddly soldering) and a new revision had to be issued."

Thanks for your help rory!

I had the video res set too high. I dropped it from 720x576 to 640x480 and it has resolved both those issues!

Works like a dream.

Must still be something wrong somewhere, you should be able to get that resolution, the frame rate may drop, but you should not get a video lost issue even at that resolution.
