FunkyRX 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Hi, I'm a newbie and have read many posts on codecs, resolution, recording quality, etc. I understand the basics but want to know what the more experienced people would recommend for this particular setup. Environment is a food court within a busy shopping center. Four cameras set to record on motion. Three over the counter (aimed at cash register) and one over the rear door. I have a very high performance PC (core2duo) with 300GB dedicated to recording. My current settings are: Video resolution: 640x480 Recording quality: 3 (out of 5) Motion sensitivity: 7 (out of 10) Record video: GEO MPEG 4 (other avail options include GEO H264 / GEO MPEG 4 (ASP) Pre-record motion: 0s Post record motion: 3s Wanting to keep last 7-10 days of footage. What settings would the professionals use in such a setup and are there any others I should consider? Thanks in advance, Jarrad
rory 0 Posted January 2, 2007 i normally do something like this . Video Source: 640x480 De-interlace Video resolution: 640x480 Recording quality: 5 Motion sensitivity: 7-9 Record video: GEO MPEG 4 Pre-record motion: 3s Post record motion: 3s Auto Reboot - either 1 day durations or 7 days .. depends on the system and application, times vary from one system to the next. I never found any noticable increase in quality going to 720x480 so I normally stick to 640x480. I dont think Pre Record is really required with lots of lighting and close up shots, but noted anyway. 501 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Hey Rory, I was just wondering what the advantage to using 640X480 Deinterlace versus standard 640x480? I find that the pic quality is quite a bit better with 640X480 although really fast motion doesn't record as well. On our systems we set them up: 640X480 (source and rec) Rec Quality - 5 GeoMpeg4 or H.264 for longer recording times pre record (good) Post - 5sec
