Arockerdude 0 Posted January 6, 2007 My Geovision software skips frames on playback. The problem is worse in quad view. Single view it is just a bit jerky. If I save the video to an Avi file the video plays at the correct speed. Is this the way Geo works? My old Dvr played back at the right speed. Sholdn't the geovision play back more at a more normal speed? Thanks Dave My computer is a Pentium 4 - 2.3 Ghz with HT Windows Xp Service Pack 2 512 Mb Ram Video card Ati 9550 Geovision 800-8 currently running four cameras Geovision 8.2 software
501 0 Posted January 6, 2007 What codec are you using? I've found the playback, especially at 2 speed or above is terrible with the H.264 compression. Try the Geo ASP.
Arockerdude 0 Posted January 6, 2007 Thanks for the tip. I am using Mpeg 4. I will try the Mpeg 4 asp. If I change the speed. My sound playback cuts off. I just noticed even when I am not recording. It skips frames. When the cars go by they jump ahead a few feet each second. Dave
rory 0 Posted January 6, 2007 if its recording at the same time, then its probably just the system itself .. using the Mpeg4 codec will not effect this.
Arockerdude 0 Posted January 7, 2007 Why didn't I think of that. Geo card and system overload. I will be suprised if that dosn't work. I'll try to shut down the recording end of Geo. But here again I am asking myself. How could my $500 dollar Swann DVR Record and playback flawlessly? And it has live view also. I'm going to pop a hard drive back into the Swann and re-check the playback. Just don't understand it. I have a fortune into this computer. Video card, Sound card, Geo card, Exspensive monitor. And still not sure how much better if at all. This system is compared to the Swann. My Swann does not record in Mpeg 4. But for another $100 I could get a Dvr that does record at Mpeg 4. And has a Cd or Dvd burner on it. Just need to find one that has a seperate camera output for each monitor. Or just get some type of looping multiplexor going into the Dvr. Thanks. rory 0 Posted January 7, 2007 the evidence sharing quality on the Geo is going to be much greater than that swan DVR. Also, I dont think this is a dedicated PC DVR right? If you have other programs and processes running it will slow it down and cause this. Remember the RTOS or just Embedded OS on the Swan will not be running anything else .. download my Tweak Software and run the Tweak ., you can always untweak it. also close all other programs ... remove programs you dont use much. then try again .. BTW, one way around an embedded RTOS system's evidence sharing quality issue, is to loop out in playback, from the monitor output, to a simple capture card in a PC .. then you will get decent video and can burn the video to CD etc. Also turn off the post recording or at least drop it lower like 3-5 seconds, shouldnt need a whopping 20 secs .. 501 0 Posted January 7, 2007 It looks like no one asked you what chipset you are running. With a GV800 card you need an Intel chipset, NOT sis or Via. Check you mobo specs to see what chipset it uses. Also as a test, try viewing/recording at 320x240 instead of 640x480 to see if that makes any difference. The GV800 is a far far better product then the Swann, you are facing installation/configuration issues, which is why its sometimes best to stick with the ease of a standalone. rory 0 Posted January 7, 2007 actually i got a GV800 to work with SIS before
501 0 Posted January 7, 2007 Truth be told, so have i but I have found systems with the via chipset just don't function properly. We also tried an Intel board that used an ati chipset (we didn't realize the intel board didn't have an intel chipset) and we ran into a lot of problems when trying to use the system at 640x480 (which is why I mentioned trying it at 320x240). rory 0 Posted January 7, 2007 yep the same GV800 didnt work with the Via that came with the PC .. so i switched to SIS as that was all I could get at the time .. been working since then .. but typically you can get away with Via on the GV250's as hats basically a generic card anyway .. i dont trust it for the other cards though.
