DVR Card & Camera Question

Recommended Posts

First of all, what a breath of fresh air to find this forum. The internet truely is amazing when you find just what your looking for!

We are about to move house AND have a baby, so I've decided that I want to implement a CCTV system, which will have 2 purposes.

1. To monitor the house which is in the middle of nowhere, and give all occupants piece of mind.

2. To act as a baby camera in the nursery.

I've always fancied delving into the world of CCTV, so the above 2 give me a good excuse.

Before I found this forum, I established that I wanted to go down the PC with a DVR card route. Since I want to be able to remote view via the internet, and as I work in computing it will probably be more familiar to me.

Having read the forum I have established I should get a GeoVision card, which also comes with software and will support movement detection, hdd recording and remote view. Im glad I found the forum as previously I thought a £15 off ebay would be good enough!

Im now left with a few questions and not an incredible amount of cash to spend;

1. I would like support for a maximum of 8 camera.....so which GeoVision card would be best suited?

2. One of the cameras will be quite a distance from the property, so are the video sender units advertised on eBay suitable for this purpose. Such as this one.

3. What kind of cameras should I be looking at.....is ebay a good source? Are there an cameras for sale which offer live demos to see the quality? Id like the cameras to work at night, but there are auto-on lights outside, does this determine which cameras I should be looking at?

Im in the UK, so if anyone can offer some advice on the above, and perhaps some good retailers, it would be greatly appreciated.
