flytact 0 Posted January 8, 2007 I'm obviously new to this and would like some input on how to put together a basic sytem. We're having a house built and would like to have a camera in a finished basement, as it will be somewhat remote from the house. My requirements: -1 small B&W camera -Viewing done on a TV in the kitchen. (has all necessary inputs) possibly on a dedicated channel or one of the AV Inputs - Possible viewing on main television, not necessary -the run is less than 30' run from camera location to TV -NO sound needed -NO zoom or pan needed Hope you all can help me out. securitymonster 0 Posted January 8, 2007 Just make sure you have the cable run and if you can, have them run conduit so if you need to pull more down the road you can. If your going to view the camera on multiple TV's in the house, you may want to monulate the video feed, that way its "dedicated" to a particular channel on your cable. There are various methods for doing this and I would recommend hiring an qualified person to design and install this. If you would like to tackle it, do a search on the site. Once the cable is run, you can add the camera at anytime. One thing to think about is power for the camera. Is the camera going to be powered locally, within a few feet from the camera? If so, this is as simple as pluggin the camera into an outlet. If its going to be powered from somewhere else, it will most likely be from an outlet near the TV in the kitchen that you are wanting to view it on. Depending on the purpose of this camera, if its for recreational purposes, you can get away with a $100 camera. If your looking for good video with low light capabilities or infrared, your probably closer to the $200-$300 number. If you need a source for this equipment, feel free to PM me. flytact 0 Posted January 9, 2007 So I'll mount it it on the wall/ceiling, plug it into an outlet and run the video out to the TV. This way I'm treating the camera as I would say my digital camera and when I'm ready to view I simply select one of the AV inputs? I will research having it appear on multiple stations as well. The camera is strictly for recreational purposes. We have a finished basement that while right under the kitchen/living areas is not easily observed without a camera. Thanks for you help. securitymonster 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Sounds like you've got it figured out. The install you described should work just fine.
