maquilina 0 Posted July 14, 2004 Hi, I am looking at purchasing 9 external cameras for my home. Has anyone used the Samsung SCC-931 vandal resistant dome camera? If so what are your opinions on this camera for external use? Any opinions (good and bad) about this camera and alternatives would be higly appreciated. Thank you, Michael
rory 0 Posted July 14, 2004 I dont see the point of Zoom cameras, if you cant pan and tilt them. Ive used several of their 421A zoom cameras, well a friend bought them himself, and auto focus on that model is no where as good as manually focusing a fixed lens camera. AVCONSULTING 0 Posted July 14, 2004 Are you going to be home controlling these cameras or from a remote location? You'd have to be in a pretty big and expensive house to use these cameras, especially 9 of them. Perhaps you should look into fixed domes instead, even more of them if needed to cover a large area. PTZ domes are generally a waste of money unless you intend to use them in a guard monitored situation. The quality of the Samsung is very good so you would have no problems with image quality or quality of the motor if you do decide to get them.
rory 0 Posted July 14, 2004 I found the quality of the Samsung 421A very poor, compared to other pro cameras i have used. Then again it could be the auto focus feature. Plus they are not very low light, even though they claim to be.
maquilina 0 Posted July 14, 2004 The home is on a block of about 24mx36m (roughly 80 feet x 130 feet). The home is just over 400m2 in size. I am looking to surround the home with cameras so that no-one can approach the home without being caught on camera. I have had three incidents in the past few months of damage to our home. My wife actually caught them once approaching our home. Apart from interviewing a few people the police haven't done a thing. I've gone to dome cameras because I don't want my home to look like a prison with 9 full bodied cameras. I've had the Samsung cameras demonstrated to me on a Kalatel DVMRe-16CT DVR and the quality looked good to me. I will install external sensors to turn on the external lights if movement is detected. Other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael
rory 0 Posted July 15, 2004 Hi If your main concern is night time, I would just go Black and White one time, as no low light color camera can reach the quality of the low light from a good BW camera. plus the BW would be cheaper and higher resolution. AVCONSULTING 0 Posted July 15, 2004 Definitely go with fixed dome cameras with vari-focal lenses. No way you need to spend money on a dome with motorized PTZ. You could buy 16 cameras for the price of two PTZ's. Get some lighting and that will also discourage people. They don't like light, just like ****roaches don't like light.
