ghall 0 Posted July 15, 2004 Hi Forum... I've got a situation where an existing cable run of close to 2,000' (rg-59 copper braid) is being requested for use for a cctv camera application. I understand that distances for analog applications shouldn't really exceed 1,000' or so... Is there an amplifier or extender available that would allow me to use the existing cable? Any one run into this in the past? Thanks, Greg Hall
knightvision 0 Posted July 15, 2004 I'd switch over to UTP instead. With a passive UTP Baun you can extend a run up to 2000', active bauns can go a mile
AVCONSULTING 0 Posted July 15, 2004 The EA2010 is what you will need. Below is a link for more information. http://www.pelco.com/products/power_comm/videoconditioning/eqamps.aspx
ghall 0 Posted July 15, 2004 Thanks for the recommendations... Unfortunately, new cable (utp) is not an option. I'll take a look at the recommended component. - Greg
rory 0 Posted July 15, 2004 UTP passive should not surpass 750', beyond that you should use Active, in Digital Video Recording applications.
cctv_down_under 0 Posted July 29, 2004 i would use multimode fibre for those distances, too much resistance in other cables mentioned above and amping them only magnifies any interference, fibre gives you NO interference
rory 0 Posted July 29, 2004 Cat5 gives you no interference either. and using the active recievers/tx you can get high crisp no loss of video to 1.5 miles. Fiber is too pricey.
Cooperman 0 Posted July 29, 2004 Don't know if your looking to use Colour or B/W but around 600 metres of Unbalanced RG 59 co-ax shouldn't be a problem, with the correct Video Launch Amplifier, or possibly also a cable equalising Amplifier. Another company to look at would be Tecsec at http://www.tecseceurope.co.uk
rikky 0 Posted July 29, 2004 Just try and see what you got Maybe the picture quality is bad, but enough for the client.

Thanks, Greg Hall Here is a new coaxal RG59 amplifier from NVT, not sure on the price, and is not the distance you want, but its nice for other projects under 1500'. http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_862BNC.html The pelco one AV mentioned is probably your only choice. Provideo also has one, not sure how far it does: But ypu could email them, would be cheaper than Pelco. http://www.csi-speco.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=
