Arockerdude 0 Posted February 13, 2007 If my camera seems to be in focus to me. Would that mean that my back focus is ok? The reason I ask is. Someone told me my cameras back focus is off. The camera is a Panasonic WMV 474. Here is a couple of pics. Taken with Geovision and uploaded to my online storage site. It looks the worse at night. Maybe it just to dark. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave
CCTV Phil 0 Posted February 13, 2007 Chances are you are not using an IR self corrective lens. Fujinon makes them for basically the same price as a non self corrective lenses.
Arockerdude 0 Posted February 14, 2007 Would I need a IR corrective lens if I am not using IR? Because at the time I am not using IR. From the picture does it look like I should be using IR. If so do you have a suggestion for some IR to add on. Thanks Dave
VST_Man 1 Posted February 14, 2007 check your gain adjustment if it has one.............high settings produce a grainy pic. and if it has noise reduction...............turn it on backfocus is an adjust that adjusts the lense to the camera so that your near and far setting is focusable without readjusting the lense. If your real good and the lense/camera are great you'll be able to focus and only adjust your focal point and the camer/lense stays focused. I'm pretty sure that even if the back focus is out of adjustment and you still focus the camera that your focus can still be perfect. I adjust near and far to the best and then set the lense. Arockerdude 0 Posted February 14, 2007 The camera does not have a noise reduction setting that I know of. Inless it may me called something else. And the gain is on 4. Any lower and its to dark to see anything. Dave
jisaac 0 Posted February 14, 2007 wmv 474?????? what is that? never heard of that model. are you sure you did not mean wv-cw474
Lolo Wolf 0 Posted February 14, 2007 Maybe he means the older WV-CP474 box, Panasonic discontinued replaced with WV-CP484 which has a auto back focus feature, If it is the CP-474 you can do a lot of tweaks to get a decent usable picture in low light. first check the D/N setting is on,(the factory default is off) set the BW to auto 1 or 2 if you intend to use a IR source, Good camera...If it is the one you got. rory 0 Posted February 14, 2007 if it was a new camera typically you dont need to backfocus it, but if you do, backfocus and focus it under low lighting, like early evening. No need for IR corrected lenses once it is done in low light, and you arent using IR.
jisaac 0 Posted February 15, 2007 you mean wv-cw474 wv-cp is the standard box camera style and if it is the wv-cw474 then switch the dip switch to make it switch from color to bw at a higher light level. Because its not even switching.
Lolo Wolf 0 Posted February 15, 2007 No I thought he might be using a wv-CP474 and he got the numbers mixed up http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=66976&modelNo=WV-CP474&surfModel=WV-CP474&parentCatGroupId=14220&searchModel=WVCP474&displayTab=O
Arockerdude 0 Posted February 15, 2007 Yes it is the WV-CP474 Day Night camera. Here are the settings I currently have it set too. ALC/ELC=ALC DNR-H SENS UP=4 BW= I had BW set to Auto 2 for the first few months now I am trying the BW off. Because the color mode seems to be just as clear as the Auto 2 mode. I have the same results with my Pelco 1390. Wth the color mode set to on. The lights seem to trail less. And the picture seems to look about the same. But I have the advantage of having a little color. I have worked for the SF Chronicle for 21 years. They have always had a lot of Elaborate camera systems at all our Printing facilities. They're cameras don't seem to be as snowy as my cameras when I look at there monitors. But they have better lighting than I do. I think mine are snowy because my SENS is set to 4. And I have to set it to 4 because it is so dark. I have a Pelco 1390 with the gain way up also. It is the only way I can see much of anything. It is snowy also. I think it is just too dark out there. If you look at the second picture wouldn't you say that is really dark? Will that's about how dark it is out there. Is there anything I can do to improve the picture at night. Maybe some IR. Maybe if I add IR I could turn the SENS down. Another thing is. Sometime when cars go by they look weird. Stretched out. You know the lights on the car leave trails. Wish I could do something to fix that also. Thanks for the help all. Dave
jisaac 0 Posted February 15, 2007 ya we have gotten to where we dont ever turn up the sensitivity. I will definitly look weird. It will actually look good when nothing is there. But when it goes by it will be a blur. I would turn the sens off. Switch to BW and add IR.
