VST_Man 1 Posted February 18, 2007 I need a decent VGA extender. Need to extend the DVR VGA output less than 50ft. How far can a VGA signal go before it needs amplification? I've looked at the CAT5 types but want to use RG cable since it is already installed. Thanks
jeromephone 6 Posted February 18, 2007 I am working on the same thing. A real cheap and good way to go is use a SMARTVIEW splitter. It takes the video out form the pc sends one output to the monitor and the other to another monitor or projector. You can use regular premade vga cables and they can be purchased real cheap. Premade up to 100'. signal is amplified for use up to 250'. I can pm you with source if you want.
Doug 0 Posted February 18, 2007 I've used dozens of these with excellent results, they come in lengths of up to 100 feet but I haven't used any that long so I'm not sure of the quality at that length, but certainly the25ft and 50ft cables have worked very well for me. They come in m-m, m-f and f-f. They also have slim line extension cables but I haven't tried them so again, I can't comment on the quality. http://www.sfcable.com/catalog/wholesalecables/VG10-50.html Doug
jeromephone 6 Posted February 19, 2007 These would be the cables I would use too. I have tried the splitter cables and they did not work well trying to use a monitor and a projector.
