Caught on video and the cops need help

Two guys tried to break into my truck the other night and I caught them on my camera. They hit over 20 other vehicles in my area that night, but I have the only video. Geovision running Ver 7. I burned the video onto a cd in .exe format and .avi and included the codec on the disc. The cop came by tonight and said they couldn't get it to work and asked me to convert it to a "standard avi file". Am I missing something here? Could someone educate me on the file types/codecs and best method to provide them to the authorities? If I just view the event file from the GV folder, I can only see the bottom half of the video.

In the future use the backup utility as that creates a version of the View log (EZViewLog) with the files you select, so you can then burn that to CD or even dump it on a USB drive, or write direct.

 

for now .. this was created using Remote Playback and making it an exe.

Okay heres my versions. They are all ISOs so just burn them to a DVD -R for dedicated players.

 

DVD format with integrated player for PC use. You can burn to DVD-* PCs don't care.

Burn that to a DVD-R and they can play it in a normal DVD player.

 

 

 

I am assuming you have some experience burning, ISO files require no interaction in Nero. Just pick it and choose the drive and insert the proper disk.

ISO basically so he wouldn't have to build the VOBs to make a DVD normal players (not PC) can use.

I imported your clip into the free Movie Maker program from MicroSoft and was able to save the file as a .wmv file that can be played by most media players on computers.

I just tried that program, wouldn't work for me. It locked up.

 

The police are unlikely to install that on their system just on trust issues alone.

 

Too bad It didn't work. I didn't even fool around with it because I know the police wouldn't.

I stopped using real and windows media a long time ago...found the zoom player to be lightweight and quick for viewing most files on the fly...sorry you had a problem, in so far as trust .....I dont trust anybody cept my mother

Yeah, I don't use Media Player either. I use BSPlayer primarily, but I use others as well, like VLC. Media Player Classic is good too.

 

I hate Real Player, haven't used it for several years.

 

I only trust mom too

You guys should try out VLC, you can play/transcode/stream about anything with it. As a bonus it's free.

scary aint it, cops not having the ability to deduce how to play files.... and we expect them to play detective and solve crimes. No wonder there are so many unsolved crimes if they cant even figure out something you can google.

and to add to that - I dont think the police really care - well the people doing the real jobs in the police may do - but the bosses probably dont....
