bike_rider 0 Posted February 23, 2007 I'm looking for color, high quality cameras for residential use in the 'burbs. Outside lighting is typical 'burbs - street lights that would back light anyone in the driveway or front yard. I'm not inclined to add flood lights, but IR pojectors could be acceptable. The 484 looks better on paper, so why is the CW374 more expensive? Of course the 374 is all weather, so the 484 would need a box, but that isn't very expensive. Did I miss something in the specs? Is the 374 notably better image quality? (are there other manufacturers in this price range I should consider?)
jisaac 0 Posted February 23, 2007 i wondered that myself. And what I was told was that the 374 is an all inclusive ready to go housing/camera/lens/mount package with a sleek look to it. So I never myself got one. I would go with the 484 and just get a housing and mount. the 374 is only SDII
Lolo Wolf 0 Posted February 23, 2007 Both thoses cams are excellent the 374 advantages: total solution for outdoor install, heater fan,.. Ive used teamed up with a extreme uf100 ....very good results. I also liked the monitor output for set up The 484 I havent used but did a lot of work with the older CP474 that was replaced by the 484 and they were very good, the 484 added a auto back focus that the 474 lacked. However with a box you will have the added cost of a enclosure and a quality lens as well. Other cams that have performed well for me: outdoor rough service Sanyo Vcc-XV400 discontinued but still some dealers have them, very good low light operation, also the Extreme line of cameras and as well If you go the box route also take a look at the the Pani WV-CP254H cheaper, smaller but lacks the sens up, backlight masking and built in motion detector but maybe you dont need that... the 374 is not just hype it has a unique deterent look to it and my client liked that. Ive used a lot of panasonic products and they all perform well. I am waiting for a toshiba IK-1000 starlight the spec looks impressive and wanna bench for a upcomming job maybe take a look a it. Im sure others on the board will give you imput. For me I like the panasonic products, and have had good results with their gear. The 374 uses the superII dynamic technology and the 484 the newer superIII, a few more tweaks....remember if you go box get a quality lens you can work with to take advatage of the performance that the camera has to offer and stay away from cheap enclosures. Good Luck, wish I could ride my bike but its snowin hard here just now...
bike_rider 0 Posted February 23, 2007 ...Good Luck, wish I could ride my bike but its snowin hard here just now... thanks. the weather is mostly fine in California. Snow is at 3,300 feet, so we'll get in some good mountain biking this weekend. If the rain holds off, I can return to commuting on my Kawasaki. We have all kind of bikes in the garage.
