DVR Solutions For > 16 Cameras

Recommended Posts

I have installed several Dedicated Micro DS2 installations for customers here in the US in the past. I now have two opportunities that I am not sure how to address:

1. single location requiring 32 cameras and ability for remote viewing over the internet.

2. three locations each requiring 16 cameras and ability for remote viewing over the internet.

I know I could just install multiple DS2 units, but requiring the customer to logoff one DS2 on Network Viewer in order to log back on another DS2 would not be acceptable.

I purchased a GV800 card to play with, thinking that their SW would be able to provide a GUI which integrated the video from multiple servers. Looking at the GUI packaged with the product, I am severely disappointed. These customers are used to using the DS2 GUI for real time monitoring and searching/displaying through prior days recording. I found using the GV GUI incredibly more cumbersome at best, and the customer would never accept it.

Am I missing something? Is there a better GUI for the GV? Is there a better video card product I should be looking at? Or is there a simple DVR or multiple DVR solution I should consider (GUI as good as DS2 and similar price point, i.e. apx $2K USD / 16 cameras).

Alternative to DM would be Kalatel, which is generally cheaper than DM.

But a 16 channel is more than $2000 in both brands.

Anyway, Kalatel's network software allows up to 16 DVRs at one time, and up to 64 cameras in one multi view, custom arranged or preset. 20 users can connect over the netowork at one time, and you can also change the DVRs menu programming over the network. It has advanced search features, and in my opinion from using DM and Kalatel, a much better and more powerful software interface. Maybe not as 'pretty' as DM, but I chose Kalatel over DM for its features.

You can look at the DVMReCT (60pps) if you dont need CDRW or DVD built in, or the DVMRe-PRo (120pps) with CDRW or DVD. There is also the StoreSafe pro with CDRW and 60pps, which is less in cost. And using 16 cameras, i never go less than a 160GB harddrive, but to save cost you may have to go with an 80GB, or 40GB. Also, though it voids the warranty, you could buy a 40Gb and install your own larger hard drives. Just keep the original hard drive incase you have to send it back.

That said, even a low end DVR like Everfocus has multi site remote video products. The software is not as powerful, but it does have remote search by time/date, alarm, and segments (volumes).

Hope this helps.

From what I can see in the online literature for the Kalatel software, it looks like it would definitely solve the problem. Is the DVMRe-PRO being shipped yet?

yes, PM me if you need prices, I have all the dealer prices, on the DVMRe-PRO (120pps), as well as the StoreSafe Pro (60pps), and the updated prices for the StoreSafe and DVMRe-CT. Im only selling the StoreSafe in the 4 chanel version now, and the StoreSafe Pro in 10 channel & 16 channelm and the DVMRe-Pro with DVD in the 16 channel. The DVMRe-PRO also comes with a CDR for a couple dollars less.

Yes I use the multi site feature right now for a couple sites, and its so simple to use.
