Wireless? or Conduit?

Recommended Posts

Hey Whats Up Everyone? This is my first post and i hope im in the right section with these questions....

Will first of all i have a small job coming up on a customers apartments. He has 3 light poles, two at the back(one on the left and one on the right) and one in the front. He wants a camera on each of the poles in the back(which i will put in a housing)and for the front pole he wants a PTZ.Sounds simple but its not.The 2 back camera's wont be as hard because i can make 2 trenches that will led straight to the head-unit and they'll be ran in conduit for sure. But the pole where we wants the PTZ to go is like.....75-150 feet away! And thats if im walking towards the head-unit in a straight line!Basically my problem is that if i was to make a trench from the PTZ to the head-unit it would destroy ALOT of plants and walk paths.I was thinking of going wireless but i dont know much about that and what parts i would need and also didnt now if it was possible of getting power on the light pole.I know its a light pole and it obviously has power but i dont know if id be allowed to tamper with it.Can anyone help me out here and give me a solution on how i can get a PTZ on a light pole via wireless?

And my next question is...The brand i normally use is Eclipse(was thinking about using it on the job above).I find eclipse to be cheap and some what a good brand. But recently i brought over a Eclipse Nubix8LT and the internet playback was POOR!!!Now im second guessing. Can anyone recommend another good brand i can use one which is not so expensive? And one that has great good/great internet playback? Thanks alot!Like Honeywell or anything else!

well first off ask him if he cares if you trench. If not then just rent a ditch witch and you could have the trench dug in no time.

2nd:

does he own the light pole or is it a street light?

if he owns the light pole then just hire an electrician to put an outlet on your pole from the lights power source. But the wireless solution will be more expensive than the trench. But if you want to go wireless verint has a excellent product that is an encoder and decoder nextiva is the name.

Hi Jay .. check into avermedia for a replacement for the DVR .. they have some budget MPEG4 units with LAN. Cant say how the Network software is just yet as I havent used it, but my colleague here is bringing some in to test.

If they want something higher end, check out GE, Bosch, Panasonic, etc.

As for the cameras ... if it is BEC Poles, stay away from them, they may come by and tief the camera as its on their pole ... if you want wireless CCTV gear, check out VideoComm, i worked on a job where they had these mounted on Electric Poles, and they were far enough away from the high voltage to work good. If you need help setting them up let me know, though its fairly easy.

Wireless is expensive though, I would trench first, unless there is no other option.

Well i think i'll convince him to go with the trenching instead. It wont be easy but if its cheaper i'll have to go that way.And also, if he doesnt happen to own those poles...Does that mean i wont be able to mount cameras on them?If so that will mess me up BIG time!

Well really you could mount anything on them and probably get away with it .. at least in nassau .. they are slack around here .. where you live it might be different though.

If you cant mount on them, you could look at optional poles, i had a job here where we mounted square hollow poles around the yard (not wooden, i think they were iron or maybe even thick aluminum as they have never rusted, dont think they were steel), painted them black, but they werent cheap. We brought them in from the US because all they had here were the round poles. They cost around $150 each plus shipping and customs, then to mount them in the ground and paint them.

It works pretty well, I don't fully "get" it yet but it works.

For some reason live view appears to support the full range of resolutions, but when I playback I get 800x600. Like I said I haven't fully tweaked it so it may just be in config.

The TV out does not support IP cams, so note that if you wanted it.

The EB1304Net works great for a low cost 4 channel DVR. Its Dark Blue in color if that's the one you are thinking of. We use them everyday here with no problems.

I was told at the Avermedia Booth in Las Vegas, that the new model 1704 DVR will support IP cameras, and 4 channels of audio. I saw the model myself on display. I understood it will be available in May? if there are no problems.

Do you have a link to that one, and is it a stand alone unit, non PC?

Looking for some products for a retail DIY store down here .

Yep thats the one, also the same unit without lan, lots of people down here looking for the cheapest solution but something that works, no Lan required in most cases.

They stopped making the non lan model due to the popularity of the lan version. The non lan version ( If you can find them) are from dealers old stock as the manufacture stopped shipping them in Feb.

But if the avermedia is good i'll get that.
