hudson 0 Posted April 10, 2007 We have a job coming up to design and implement 32-camera system in Paper Mill Factory. Few places in the factory will be high humidity because of steams that come out from boiled water in paper machines. All cables need to be home run to the control room which is 2,000ft-3,000ft away. Below is the list that we come up with. Please advices if any: 1. DVR: we will use GV-1480 in Dell Server (PowerEdge 840, Dual Core 2.8Ghz, 2GB of RAM, integrated Video Card, 2x500GB SATA). We need to have 2 systems to accommodate 32 cameras due to the limitation (16 cameras/system) of Geovision. 2. Camera: need decent box cameras (need brand and model?) that can go to the housing, few housings will have heater and blower. 3. Lens: because of box cameras, I need lens to go with box cameras. Lens will be auto iris, and focal length adjustable (3mm-12mm). Need brand and model of lens? 4. Cable: cat6 or cat5e (whatever can go outdoor?). We have to use some active balun due to the distances. We think about NVT, but those are high. Any substitute products with reasonable price and quality? 5. Spool of Cat5 or cat6 is 1,000ft. How do we connect those spools together to make 3,000ft? Thanks.
kensplace 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Others may be able to comment on your specific needs, but I think you may be better of getting some quotes from some pro installers, a 32 cam system in a factory is a big job, and not really the type of thing I would want to do whilst learning the basics at the same time. You will have lots of issues to cope with, not just cctv issues, but building regs/health & safety etc. Cams in areas with steam may need specialist cases, so no steam can get in - possibly even washer/wipers to clear the housing windows if the steam is bad. Cabling will probably need professionally installing, so as not to get damaged, either from moving machinery/objects/people or even from the enviroment (steam/chemicals/water). DVRS/cams will need clean power (so you need to make sure the power is clean, no spikes from large equipment in the factory), backup power - is it needed, if so UPS's need consideration. Security at night? Is it needed? If so, they either need to leave all the lights on, or install security lights (infra red maybe). Its often better if someone who has done loads of installs or consultations see's the property/positions on proposed cams, as then they can tailor the advice to the situation in hand. If you get a name of a good cam, and for some reason its not suitable due to some unforseen point that only a visit would have noticed, then it would be a expensive mistake after you bought 32 of em.... Good luck anyways!

We install few systems before this job, and most of them are residential, small business, and warehouse. This is our first one in Factory. We are the only local guy do CCTV in this area (South East Asia) You will have lots of issues to cope with, not just cctv issues, but building regs/health & safety etc. We don’t worry much about building regulations since this is private factory, and there are no rules yet in this type of business down here. Cams in areas with steam may need specialist cases, so no steam can get in - possibly even washer/wipers to clear the housing windows if the steam is bad. We will get a waterproof, heater/blower, and wiper housing for those cameras in humidity area. Cabling will probably need professionally installing, so as not to get damaged, either from moving machinery/objects/people or even from the enviroment (steam/chemicals/water). All indoor cables will be placed in existing metal conduits and up on ceiling. Outdoor cables (Cat5e or Cat6) from facilities to control room (2,000ft-3,000ft) are things that I worry about. Cost will rise up if we run conduits with that distance. Do we have any type of cable that I can leave out of the sun? DVRS/cams will need clean power (so you need to make sure the power is clean, no spikes from large equipment in the factory), I will make sure to have clean power for those cameras. backup power - is it needed, if so UPS's need consideration. Since DVR server will be in Server Room, they already have UPS for all equipments. Security at night? Is it needed? If so, they either need to leave all the lights on, or install security lights (infra red maybe). This facilities is operated 24/7, so there are light on most of time. Light is not an issue. Its often better if someone who has done loads of installs or consultations see's the property/positions on proposed cams, as then they can tailor the advice to the situation in hand. I need those cameras that can last for 3-5 years. Thanks for your advices.
sgtjj 0 Posted April 16, 2007 You will be able to get answers from any security consultant or installer that does alot of jobs. As for the cabling you need a voice/data solution. to get the cat 5 or 6 those distances. You will need to put in patch panels or punchdown blocks. But you will not be able to certify the cables at those distances. you might want to consider fiber runs with break outs to copper.
