hudson 0 Posted April 11, 2007 For distance of 3000ft, we have to use UTP active transceiver baluns at both 2 ends. However, spool of Cat5 or cat6 come in with 1,000ft/spool. How do we connect those spools together to make 3,000ft?
rapid 0 Posted April 11, 2007 You can connect the cabling spools using simple B Wire crimp connectors if you have access to the joints. You can purchase these which come with a sealant as well for protection. Once all connections are made, use electrical tape to secure the joints and connectors so they don't get damaged during installation. I prefer soldering the connections as well to ensure you have a good electrical connection. You can cover the soldered ends using these B wire crimp connectors (you may have to widen the hole in the B connectors so the wires fit in).

Do you think "RJ45 8-PIN MODULAR INLINE COUPLER STRAIGHT-THRU" will be more appropriate? I find it in "Cablestogo"

CollinR 0 Posted April 15, 2007 Is this way faster then you crimp butt splice on every single wire? Nope. You MUST maintain the twist in the wires too. You can untwist the pairs but you need to retwist them before taping/heat shrinking.
Doug 0 Posted April 15, 2007 I am impressed with the specs of the first one, that must be some gel to both insulate and improve conductance at the same time. "Filled with silicone gel to insulate and improve conductance". use http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/UYC/search/2_WIRE_TELECOM_BUTT_SPLICE-UY_.html to connect. use http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/COS-1/search/COAX_SEAL_.html
