Top 10 Open IP Video Management Software

Recommended Posts

Hi, does anybody know what are the top 10 IP surveillance software (for recording, archiving, integration with analytics, virtual matrix, etc.) I know about Genetec, Milestone, Lenel and DVTel but I want to look at others by order of worldwide position/importance if possible.

Take a look at Petards UVMS. A UK company with office in US. We're using it at several Casinos. Also using it in high-end residence in FL. They just integrated Immervision (canadian co. that makes 360 lenses.) Works great. Take a look at Immervision, it is very cool and will replace Ipix technology, IMO. We're running over 1000 cameras at one sit. Also, have one 100% IP site with over 400 cameras.

Thanks lynndiwagon; seems interesting. Why did you choose them for your casinos? what are their added values? I also did not find a list of compatible devices with their UVMS.

I'm surprised they don't list supported cameras, encoders, etc. Actually, they will integrate any camera/encoder you want to use. We ended up using it after much research, and many demo's. There are others, and they are all very similar. This is an emerging market and I think we are just seeing the beginning. The problem is that many casinos are heavily invested in analog and it is hard to justify the additional up-front costs. A new casino is the ideal time to make the switch. The big initial cost is for storage. As HD's come down in price things start getting interesting and competitive. There is really no comparison between analog video and IP video. Give them a call and I'm sure they would be glad to offer a demo. You can see them at IPSEC2007 in Birmingham this year, as well as most other major shows. Good luck in your endeavor..

Yes you're right Ipsec, Ifsec......hard to keep up. Wish I could go. I noticed that Petards will be there. Look them up and see what you think. They should have that Immervision lens hooked up for demo. You'll find that very interesting.

If you are looking for a high-end solution with analytics maybe NiceVision from NICE Systems is what you are looking for.

Another company I saw in IFSEC is Indigo Vision. Their demo was quite interesting.

Guys don't forget about VidoeProtein, the only true Linux, competely browser based IP software solution that I have tested and seen. Runs as a web service (web services 2.0 think Google & You Tube) anywhere on the network. Works in Internet Explorer, Firefox & Safari on Mac's. Completely hardware indpendent. VideoProtein V3.1 was built to scale to 1000's of cameras and locations. Since it runs as a web service it's a thin client (skinny) No software to download to any PC's. Nice. Fully featured all in a web browser.

Don't get me wrong there is some really great stuff out there, but I haven't seen any company in this space with the vision these guys have.

We've had good experience using Milestone. The fact that it supports the greater majority of the IP cams we use and install is good. They also turnaround drivers real fast.

Maybe we've just been lucky, but we've never has a single crash with Milestone software, but fair-to-poor experiences with most other software.

Hello everyone,

I know that our company has been bashed on a few of the posts on this forum. However, myself and the rest of the company is very confident that our product is on par if not better than the competition.

If anyone has any problems, concerns, or questions. please do not hesistate to email me, ask on here, or call our 866 number which can be found on our website.

For distributors that are interested, we are willing to send out free Demo's to test our application.

I have used LuxRiot with success.

Not sure why they aren't mentioned much.

Relatively cheap and works pretty good. I have had good experiences with the LuxRiot support. the one install has been working for about 3 years now, with a few bug fixes along the way.

I have also tried Active Webcam, after some initial excitement, I think this program is kinda junk. lame customer support from PySoft.

If they would fix the bugs, then it might be worth using. very cheap.

(i know you get what you pay for..)

I install Axis cams with ControlByNet's i-flashback software. It's one of the few (if any) that is 100% web-based. Most others have some kind of admin console on the server.

Drawback of the software is it isn't used with every camera out there. However from a dealer aspect I don't want to put crap out anyway, and using the Axis cameras gives me confidence and a 3 year warranty. Basically they say it's for the more professional installations, not your 2 camera cheap IP install.

What about Exaq, I saw the demos and they look good, I can only wonder how much they cost though!

Exacq is awsome! I recently got hooked on them. Pricing is not bad.

Exacq is not bad at all and pricing is more then hybrid solutions but less then many NVR sotwares.

(Exacq is a hybrid with full IO capability like Geovision.)

Yeah Its the FIRST ip software that has impressed me, now maybe the ones I have seen just were not the best, and these guys might be better at marketing also .. but the video demos on you tube showed it off really good.

Anyone here using it and have any demo images or anything else?

Thanks

If you PM me they sent me their demo server link, so I can forward you the link to the software and username / password.

And yes, their Hybrid solution is pretty pricey compared to others. Their NVR is the one that's pretty competitively priced.

When talking about video surveillance software, it comes to my mind the compatibility with the chipset, is there a single or just a few major chipset makers from which major ip camera makers liked Axis, Vivotek, etc. actually rely on?

Tks, Dove

for the open IP s/w, it's all capturing MJPEG streams. some prgrams allow control of the IP camera functions.

I don't think the camera chipsets come into play however..wrt the recording sw.
