Panasonic WJ-HD316A USB burning

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm trying to burn anything from my DVR to my USB burner. I've bought the proper burner from the manufacturer. As always the Panasonic instructions are horrible at best. I've read their FAQ which didn't help. Currently, I'm trying to copy a file under the 4GB that the FAQ says. When I press the copy button, do the settings and then press the "size" button, I get the size of the file I wish to copy but nothing on the size of my CD or DVD just a couple of stars ** ? Has someone done this before?

Also, slightly different topic. Is there a 16ch DVR that can burn 1 hour of data in less than 1 hour? I've seen a 16k 1 channel DVR do it in 20-25mins. That's it.

I have only made copies via the RCA out to a VCR and the S-video out directly to a computer. These out puts are located on the front panel along with the USB copy port 2 out.

After reading the manual, the only thing I can think of for the moment is, have you Formatted, (Initialized) the CD, DVD or disk receiving the copy? It seems to me that the unit is not recognizing the disk? Check the Format (Initialize) A DVD-RAM DISK section in the manual. Also, check the Format (Initialize) Hard Disk section in the manual. Hopefully, this helps.

I've successfully made copies from Panasonic WJ-HD316A on to DVD and CD, with Plextor USB based DVD writer.

But before attaching the DVD writer, I've upgrade the firmware of the DVR.

In the process of Disk Space, it shows "**", but you should proceed with copy procedure.

Important Note: After the copy sign vanish from the screen (that the copy has completed), to eject the DVD follow the procedure as mentioned in the manual after the "Copy to DVD" section.

Yes, you can use the Plextor to copy from the WJ-HD316.. However, I understand that the Plextor converts the files making them readable for various movie making programs and media players.

When using the proper burner from the manufacturer, you must Format, (Initialize) the disk receiving the copy. I would think it is done that way so the Panasonic player can play the copied files?

The manual states that you must Format or (Initialize) all internal, external and/or extension drives. At least that is the way I understand the manual.

Sorry, I failed to mention my thoughts in regard to the WJ-HD300 series updates.

From what I understand, the updates add features to the player such as being able to make a snap shot from within a video for saving to a HDD or printing. They also expanded some of the features for viewing and controlling the unit from a PC. They also added the ability to use a SD card reader with USB Interface and an External HDD with USB Interface. There is a day light savings time update too.

There are other areas covered in the updates that involve too much to cover here. However, there is an ADDENDUM available from Panasonic, explaining those updates. By the way, I think I have a copy of the ADDENDUM for the 300 series? I will have to look.

If you are using Plextor to record from Wj_HD300A series DVR, plextor does not convert it for ordinary media players, when you perform the disk ejection procedure, a viewer is also written to disk for playing the recorded file.

Moreover there is no need to format the media (CD/DVD) while using Plextor, the CD-RW and DVD-RW can be format.

The next, it is written in the manual that you can backup to CD/DVD or DVD-RAM only, no USB Flash writing is possible (see Copying section in manual.

Just try copying to a DVD or CD without using the Plextor at all. I don’t think it will work for you either. You will have to format the disk and use the recommenced burners. That is the question above. Also read the ADDENDUM direct from Panasonic in regard to upgrades and the addition of other capture media, etc.

ADDENDUM

Taken from the manual:

To copy (duplicate) recorded images onto the DVD-RAM

disk, formatting (initializing) the DVD-RAM disk is required

in advance.

To delete images recorded on the DVD-RAM disk, formatting

(initializing) of the DVD-RAM disk is also required.

Important:

All data on the disk will be deleted if formatted (initialized).

It is impossible to recover the deleted images.
