cctv_down_under 0 Posted August 19, 2004 I have customer that wants his DVR to be controllable and viewable on a 80cm or 34 Inch Composite TV, the only inputs are SVIDEO and Standard Composite! He has tried the secondary output of the Video Card but obviously it is poor quality, has anyone seen a CRT Monitor that is 37" and has DVI or XVGA inputs or does anyone know of a REALLY GOOD (not the cheapo garb) XVGA to composite converter that will give reasonable results... I am stumped on this one! Oh and YES RORY I know a standalone will do this!!!!
Thomas 0 Posted August 19, 2004 I did some checking and all I can find is the cheap stuff. Your best bet to find the higher end stuff is to try some of the local A/V shops that specialise in the good stuff. The other options seem to be the really expensive plasma screens which will take DVI natively. I can't find a CRT that will accept it.
Thomas 0 Posted August 19, 2004 I should have looked harder. http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/video/65ee/ Now how you'll get it to AU...I don't know. It looks like it has a VGA input, so just use a vga/dvi converter. It's powered and looks like it's intended to go from TV to Monitor so it does some signal boosting stuff. You could try the RCA input too.
rory 0 Posted August 19, 2004 Yep, this is an LCD we use, well Ive used the $1300 27" one, but yes it is much cheaper than a Plasma, Better quality than a Plasma, and has al lthe inputs you need. It is made ( I imagine) on your side of the pond, so you should be able to find it over there. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=711309&Sku=S452-3000 It is a great quality picture by the way. Ive tried several of the convertors, but you always loose some image quality, especially with CCTV conversion from a stand alone DVR, may be different using VGA, though we were using S-Video. cctv_down_under 0 Posted August 21, 2004 I dont think either of those will do the job, I have a similar one to what Tom suggested here and they loose out on the conversion, The one Rory suggested is LCD and the stores that this person will be using these monitors in are going to have large 84cm Composite Monitors so using the LCD instead would not make it viewable from all angles as I need
rory 0 Posted August 21, 2004 you can see it from the side no problem.
knightvision 0 Posted August 25, 2004 DVR - Something I have come across lately to watch out for. Some card and software with LIVE display capabilities uses a DirectX overlay which does NOT display correctly using the graphics card's S-Video or Composite out. Double check with the manufacturer!!! cctv_down_under 0 Posted August 26, 2004 You are right, you need a card that supports it, otherwise pink screens Problem I have is none of these products have 4:3 as a native display it just shrinks to this I need a 30" screen with VGA or XVGA and 4:3 interface
