Couple of question for your install/system.

Will you be placing the DVR on a desk/table/office kiosk? Will this be mounted in a rack in a IT closet?

If this is going in an office desk/kiosk then I would recommend the Flex Series.

If this is going in a server room then the PRO would be the one to recommend.

If you decide on the Flex series there is a part number for an upgrade that gives you realtime recording. The part number is R-30. Ask for the Flex 8 with the R-30 upgrade!

I would PM Security Monster. On the forum home page scroll down and click on the name securitymonster, and then click on PM. Send him $100 for advice.... NO I am only kidding. He is a good guy and he knows his stuff. He has worked with the IC Realtime dvrs.

Hope this helps!

The ICRealtime and Panasonic are the same units, except for the compression. ICR uses H.264 and Pano uses MPEG-4. In a direct comparison, I liked the ICR version better. Another difference is the built in web client. The ICR has a built in web client allowing you to view remotely with just IE and the Pano does not.

I have put a few clients into the RT208 from Pano and quickly switched them out to the 300 series from Pano.

If it was between the ICR Pro and Pano RT208, I would choose the ICR Pro.

Personally I would go with the GE DVMRe over both of them, in that price range at least and a stand alone DVR.

But for real time on all channels, and for a high end app like a casino, you may want to look at other options.

In my experience using both units, the ICRealtime is far superior in image quality, remote access, and compression compared to the Panasonic.

Don't get me wrong, I would put more customer into the 300 series from Panasonic first, but as a direct comparison I would choose the ICR.

I have zero complaints on the ICRealtime nor do some security industry folks that have used countless ICR units...

You should try it before you knock it! Talk to Andrew, he'll hook you up!

of course rory suggest the ge. Rory has knocked the ic dvr's from the very beginning and tries his hardest to bad mouth all over this forum. Yet he has never even tried one. So what makes him the authority to make suggestions on products he has never even touched!?!?!?!?!?

I guess its all of his post. Because if he has the time to be making all of these post he must have enough time to be getting real HANDS ON experience. Wouldn't you say so?

Give me a break.

The IC pro dvr's you cant go wrong with. You can be sure that rory will bad mouth the ic line no matter what the post. And then push the GE. Because back when he was in the industry that was what he liked to use.

.........countdown to rory editing this post........or moving it to dealer forum

Quick question Guys. Is the playback on both the ICRealtime and the Panasonic 300 series in real time on all 16 cameras or channels? I know the Pano displays real time on all 16 cameras in live view. Just wondering if both would play back any or all of the recorded 16 cameras in real time?

Our PRO DVR does in fact record, play back, and stream in realtime on all 16 channels (480x480fps). Panasonic's 300 series records and playsback at 60fps at HD1 res or 120fps at SIF res.

So the ICRealtime is made in Japan??

No, they are made in China. Though, a lot of the hardware and software architecture was developed in Japan. So maybe you should talk to Pano and see if there wj-rt208 was fully made in Japan...Probably not.

Thanks Kandcorp. I have a Pano 300 series. Based on the comments above, I thought that Panasonic might have changed the playback IPS when they started calling it the 300A series. However, after looking at the advertisements and specs, I couldn’t see the difference between the two. I’ve also downloaded all the updates from Panasonic which made some very positive changes to my 300 series. It seems as though it’s very similar if not the same as the 300A.

Anyway, it sounds like the ICRealtime Pro is quite the machine. Thanks again.

metal sharper man

the panasonic 300 series can not simultanous record all 16 cameras in real time. It can record 120 ips in cif mode total for the dvr in the "A" serires. in the non "a" series it can do a total of 60 ips. Also the "A" series allows the cameras to be set up over the network.

Heck, before panasonic came out with the rt line of dvr's all they could record in was CIF. That was crap. But now they have gone up one step in resolution and its about time. Pricey too. Gotta love their cams though.

Thanks jisaacmagee.

I’m for sure, not a wiz kid when it comes to computers and even DVRs for that matter. However, I do have all my units networked over LAN.

If I’m understanding you correctly in regard to set up or controlling the cameras on the 300 series via the network, I’m pretty sure that I always could. For example, I could set a separate frame rate for each camera, recording time, hence, schedule each separately.

I also understand the frame rate you correctly described. I just got confused or found it questionable when they spoke of frame rate and/or compared the ICRealtime and Panasonic above. Simply, I just wondered if Panasonic had changed the recording or playback frame rate to 480 FPS on the newer 300A series like that on the ICRealtime Pro.

As for the price, yes it was expensive but, worth it in durability compared to other units I’ve used.

Anyway, question answered and problem solved.

Thanks so much.

Lots of places in China and Korea sell the same product

Yes, there are a lot of places in China and Korea that sell DVR's. Not any that are the same as ours but DVR's for sure.

what i mean when you can set the cameras up over the network is by using panasonics ps data to communicate up the coax and set up the on screen display via the network. that way you dont have to be a on a ladder trying to do it.

jisaacmagee,

First off, I know nothing about the Comm Settings or PS Data. I never had the reason to use it. However, I noticed that Panasonic added something to the 300 Series via an update. That change is mentioned in the ADDENDUM, page #2 under FTP Port Number Setting. Just wondering if that is what you are talking about.

If you don’t already have it, here is a link for the ADDENDUM for the 300 Series updates.

I just found out that the Flex 8 (not the PRO only shows 2 cameras at one time during playback!

Very interesting!

The point my rep was making that untill recently panasonics resolution was not as important to the panasonic people as much as the bells and whistles were.

ps. rory has helped so many people here, so i wouldnt pick on him too much.

I agree with blowrabbit that the bells and whistles seemed to be important to Panasonic. However, when they came out with the 300 Series, compression seemed to be the big push for them as well. For me the frame rate might be a little disappointing.

I also find from, reading specs, that most all of the DVR companies are doing nothing more than a trade off. What you gain in one place, you loose in the other. Simply, it just comes down to what works for you or the application and what you have to spend.

I am not picking on him. I just get sick of him dogging the icrealtime dvr when he has not even got to get his hands on one. I think its not to much to ask to give an honest review of something. Not

," use THIS and not THAT even though I have never used THAT".

Other than how he feels about it on the forum I have yet to hear any legitimate reason as to why he beats on ICrealtime like they owe him money.

Have you ever shipped a 20lb item to the Bahamas? An easy $100 plus to get there correctly...not to mention the cost Rory would pay his government!

Yep, would be approx $1000 to land it here with current customs taxes (without fixing the price), including shipping, definitely not worth it just to demo any product. Customs even go online these days to verify the retail price also. PC products are duty free though, just not something like stand alone DVRs, Video Recorders, etc.

In any event, noone needs my opinion on a product to decide whether it is good or not, never let than hold anyone back from trying anything out. Personally when i said GE, thats just a personal opinion, when i pay that $1000 to land it here plus the cost of the product (same as ICR and Pano), i know its going to do what I need, I know because Ive used it before, and well its GE (Kalatel), call it a pet peeve perhaps, either way, notice the smiley next to it in my original post. Right now I wouldnt buy a GE either, PC parts are cheaper to import here, and easier (cheaper) to maintain.

ok so lets ALL agree to this.

that in the event anyone of us have not used/tested/experienced a particular product then lets not comment on the product. I think it’s perfectly ok to recommend a product especially if you have had good experiences with it. But for products that we have not used or had direct interaction with I think it’s only fair to everyone from the providers of the product to the end users looking for advice on products; we all have to share experiences good or bad for with things we have experienced.

Ex.

There was a time some time last year in which I was looking into getting some extreme WZ line. Then Rory posted some of the recent experiences with the WZ products and the returns. That was defiantly helpful and the ideal situation in which we can share experiences and results from our interaction with different product lines. Otherwise I would have suffered some the same issues and disappointment.

I have some experience with GE products and dvr's. We have replaced about 3 GE dvr's for Icrealtime dvr's. The customer did not like the performance of the GE's. I have some experience but not enough that I would tell people not use them. Because GE could have a good product and I could be doing people disservice by telling them not to use them. I will recommend a product that I know is good. That’s why I usually comment on a select few products on this forum.

I could be the only person who thinks that we should only recommend or tell a person to not use a product with only products we have had direct experience with. But that seems only right.

If you agree let us all know.

If you don't agree then also let us all know.

And for Rory. I apologize if I have been too confrontational and been an A**. And for that I am sorry.

My attempt to try to keep the forum professional and alive with unbiased information sharing and on going resource for people all over the world caused me to violate the "professional" section of this sentence.
