TV-Out Graphics cards

Has anybody used a graphics card with TV out and viewed the image on a normal telly?

 

What was the quality like?

The quality much depends on the TV chip that the graphics card uses. Cards with Conexant CX25871 TV chip, will give the best quality on a TV.

But no matter what you'll use, the image quality will be always worst than on your pc monitor.

Correct, best bet is to find a tube telly that supports XVGA or DVI

Well the plan is to use an RF modulator with s-video in to add the signal to a house' exisiting tv aerial to allow all TV's in the house to view the cameras.

 

As long as the picture quality is going to be usable its fine, it does not need to be totally crystal clear.

If using a direct input to a TV it is normally pretty good. Going through the RF Mod you will loose some quality. But its okay just to see if someone is there. Never used S-video to the rf mod though, may be better.

If all you are trying to do is view the cameras, and not neccessarily use the TV as your primary monitor for the DVR, you would be far better to find a system that has camera loop outs, or even splitting and amping the signal before it reaches the DVR. MUCH better quality this way.

 

If you are gonna stick with the graphics card method, something to watch out for. Some DVR software uses a DirectX overlay method to display the images. This quite often will NOT work with an S-Video or Composite output on the graphics card. Don't know why, that's just what I've found.

He prolly wants customer to use remote to get a channel, if less than 4 cameras you could use a 4 ch switcher that has a remote, then imput on AV channel and use the remote to change channels
