ClayMan 0 Posted June 21, 2007 Is the hardware (card) any different between say, a GV800-8 and a GV800-16, or a GV1120-8 and a GV1120-16? I noticed both 8-port and 16-port versions have 2 D-SUB ports, but 8-port versions only come with one of the connector. Can the 8-port cards be upgraded to 16-ports at a later date simply by purchasing another one of those D-SUB cables?
501 0 Posted June 22, 2007 No, there is an onboard chip that controls the number of ports.
kao 0 Posted June 22, 2007 Actually on an older card this worked for us by accident. We had purchased a gv-600 8 port card for a demo machine in our office. At some point we wanted to use newer software, but were told we needed a newer chip. So our vendor sent us one, but it was for a 16 camera card "16 port S1". We put it in anyway to see what would happen. Low and behold - we had 16 working ports on our system. Soon after we got the USB dongle and upgraded to 7.x. I doubt this will work on the newer cards, but for older ones it seems to.
