solidus 0 Posted July 2, 2007 Hello ppl, im new here, and from what i have seen in this forum i will be a frequent costumer Im new in the CCTV area, and recently one person have asked me that he has 4 domes and two of them will be at +- 1200m. My question is, what tipe of cable should that person use for video? I've seen that cat5 will be the indicate cable for this operation, but what about the control of the camera (PTZ) can i use the same cable to do this operation? survtech 0 Posted July 3, 2007 Cat-5 would be a stretch at 1200m, even if you run active receivers and transmitters. And there is no way to get low voltage power (12VDC or 24VAC) that far. You will probably have to run the cameras from local power supplies and run at least the video on fiber cable. Even RS-422/485 PTZ control would be at or near its distance limit at 1200m.
