How many ir's do I need for a 20X20 area in total darkness

Recommended Posts

I want to cover a 20x20 area. camera Toshiba IK6400k day night cam. LOW .02 lux .2@F1.0 480 tvl. Lense 8mm auto iris

in Total darkness. I have 1 48 led ir and it seem to do nothing at all. It on about 400' of heavy drop cord. 2 @ 100' 2 @ 50' 1@ 75'.

Also the Ir is mounted on top of the cam about 15' off the ground.

How many of thse ir's would I need to cover this area.

Or is there a better ir thats not too much higher. If so how many of them and where can I get them. e-bay I hope.

Would it help or hurt to install those solar lights that stick in the ground

What do you think about the cam. should I replace it with a Black and white?

I am not familiar with the Toshiba IK6400k day night camera. I cannot be of much help with you on this one.

I did not understand the following:

"I have 1 48 led ir and it seem to do nothing at all. It on about 400' of heavy drop cord. 2 @ 100' 2 @ 50' 1@ 75'.

Also the Ir is mounted on top of the cam about 15' off the ground. "

Is this an illuminator?

Do you have 5 illuminators? Two at 100 feet, two at 50 feet, and one at 75 feet?

What brand of illuminator did you use?

Is the drop cord a good copper wire, with a large guage of wire? 400 feet may be to long of a cable run for it to work!

What voltage do the illuminators work off of?

A 48 LED IR should illuminate a 20 foot X 20 foot area with no problem!

I do not know why it does not work for you!

I only have one the drop cords are connected together to be long anough I connected the 12 vdc. to the drop cord at the camer.

The camera is 15 ' up and the ir sits on top of it. when I stand in fron of it is has a slight red glow.

the red glow means it is getting power, and it is working!

I do not know if it is getting enought power though?

It should work for 20 X 20!

Hmmmmmmm ????

Could be small LEDs though, wont always cover and if anything would normally just be a small spot. 10-20' max basically, you need something much more powerful to do 100'+.

Those little lights that stick in the ground dont do a whole lot. If anything the camera probably wont notice them at all.

I think you are right about the camera. I'll replace it with a black & white when I get home. I tested it inside with a black & white and it was very bright at close range.

Thanks,
