Hi, I'm presenting a proposal for a 600 cameras system, but I've never installed that many in one place, so I need some help...

I want recording and real time monitoring for all the cams, from what I've read I can use a Pelco Matrix but again I've no clue how to use it or if there are DVRs specialized in that many cameras, I've only used 16 chns tops. For now I'm thinking in a Pelco based system (as request from my boss) but I'm open to suggestions.

The system involves 4 cameras (1 hidden) in an hotel-type room and 130 rooms, interior cameras for the hallways and some exterior for the entrance and surroundings of the building.

not to be to forward, but, if your going to use Pelco, call Pelco and let them engineer it for you. Then add in your install costs, overhead, lunch money, ect.

For 600 cameras, use a 9760, 9770 or 9780 analog matrix switch. You can give Pelco all of the specs and they will design a system for you. The advantage of the 9780 is that it will only require two matrix bays to switch that many cameras (each can handle up to 512 inputs).

 

Actually, you could get by without an analog matrix if you don't need to control PTZ cameras or don't care about slight latency in the control. Many enterprise DVR/NVR combos can handle the video switching, etc. without the matrix. That would save around $150k to $200k.

 

The Honeywell Enterprise system is scalable and can accomodate a virtual matrix, as can the Dallmeier and the Synectics, among others. Figure on spending at least $1M for those DVR systems.

 

One of the cheapest DVR systems that can handle that many channels is the Sanyo DSR-M series casino DVR's. They record every camera at 30fps and cost approximately $400-$500 per channel with the DSR-M814 quad units. That is about as cheap as you will find.

I had a meeting with a GE Security sales engineer today to discuss this project and he proposed me a SymSecure IP based solution.

 

One of the interesting parts is the integration we can get with the system and their Access Control solution, an all-in-one package.

 

I'd like to hear your experiences with GE Security, of course the sales guy says his products are the best and in competitive prices with Pelco and other brands.

 

I've got a meeting with a guy from Pelco tomorrow to see their solutions, I'll let you guys know.

 

BTW, I'm located in Mexico City, and so is the project, and even if this project doesn't happen I got some more specially (but no exclusively) for CCTV, AC, Fire protection & smoke detection, so I'm interested in the products and services that some people from this forum have to offer.

Seriously though, would an installation that large only be typical of some of the larger Casino's / Hotels ? That is so beyond anything I could imagine taking on but I am interested in seeing what is suggested.

That would be on the small side for a full-size casino. The average is well over 1000 cameras, including more than 100 PTZ's.

Yeah, consult Pelco. They will set you up with a good scamatic. They are brilliant when it comes to this. Let us know if we can help you with anything? What cameras are you going with? Pelco?

So I went to Pelco and they proposed me the Endura system. The sales person told me wonders about it but he also mentioned that there are some parts of it on development. I searched the forum and find an Endura post were someone says its a good product, I would like to hear your experiences with the system, and if its cost-effective. Thanks!

when you say hotel-type room and 130 rooms, interior cameras for the hallways . camaras in the hall-way you better check with your state laws too see if you can put cams in the room hallways some states dont allowed that do to privacy. just my 2 cents.

Are there any reasons to spec Pelco or GE solutions? There are others available that can deliver these type of solutions with better performance such as Bosch and American Dynamics, Panasonic and others...

 

We are familiar with GE SymSecure IP based solution... but this is fairly new series of products.. and not mature enough to say that it works without any pitfalls... I normally will wait and watch others putting their hand in the fire and see if it burns... and then we can go forward. Very decent solution, but it is not a fix all... of course, GE has to say that it is the best solution...

 

My recommendation is to design a complete system using all the best solutions available from at least 5+ major manufacturers... None of them will give you the ultimate solution, regardless what anyone says.. Rather, pick up the best what they are known for and have a rich mixture of different components that will give you better results. As they say... "never put all your eggs in the single basket".
