skane 0 Posted August 18, 2007 I picked up an Arecont AV3130 today. I don't have a PoE switch yet, so I need to use a DC power supply in the interim. From the Arecont spec., the camera is rated for 12V - 48V DC, 4.5W max power consumption. The dealer gave me a 12V, 2 AMP DC power supply. Is it ok to use a DC power supply that exceeds wattage requirement for the camera? Or will I need to get a one that supplies wattage that more closely matches the camera spec? Just want to makes sure I don’t fry the new camera. Thanks for any advice.
survtech 0 Posted August 18, 2007 The current capability of the power supply doesn't matter as long as it is at least enough to power the camera. You could attach the camera to a 1000 amp power supply if you want. Just make sure you use the correct polarity.
kensplace 0 Posted August 18, 2007 But if you were to install it on a 1000 amp psu, you have to make sure its fused well, as a short on the cable could start a fire at those amps....
skane 0 Posted August 18, 2007 Thanks for the replies! The power supply is one of those $10 plug-types, and just wanted to be sure before I hooked it up.
