andyismilesaway 0 Posted August 18, 2007 Hi, completely new to this and my parents have decided they want cctv for their campsite. so... they initially only want one camera but i could see potentially they could want a couple more in the future they have broadband wireless ethernet available they do want the camera to work outside, however it neednt have its own light as we have sensor lights that illuminate the areas that need recording i keep being pointed toward axis being good cameras but i dont really understand how it all works one issue is we dont have an available "server", and what constitutes a server, what spec should it be and does it have to be "always on" or is there some form of cache built into the cameras? (would any dedicated dell pc do? or does it have to be server spec) i would have thought that IP cameras are the way forward but i appreciate there are other methods (altho i dont understand them!!) eg dvr and vhs just after some pointers really as i know they dont want to spend the earth but would like to see some options thanks for the pointers!! VST_Man 1 Posted August 18, 2007 axis are good but there also other camera available. knowing parnets you'll need to make this SIMPLE or they won't like it. I would; - avermedia 1704Hybrid http://www.aver.com/dvr/eb1704_hybrid.html if you plan on using IP cameras. Hybrid's do both analog & IP cameras - avermedia 1704MOB http://www.aver.com/dvr/eb1304net.html if you don't use IP cameras - 8 camera PTC 12VDC power supply - 4 IR Bullet cameras - RG-59 Siames cable - TV/LCD Monitor with LCD mount. Must have composite RCA input connectors so you can input the Avermedia monitor - surge protector with battery backup - GLOCK APC45 would also keep things in order try to keep as simple as possible as parents are not fun to shop for when purchasing hightech
survtech 0 Posted August 18, 2007 I would add, stay away from the cheapo package systems sold at places like Costco and Walmart.
