GarryVK 0 Posted September 11, 2004 I just installed a Swann DVR with Harborfreighttools cameras and they both have sound capabilities Is it legal to record here in the USA Video with sound or should I let the sound plugs unhooked (Dont want to be accused of wiretapping) Its in a retail application.(with video recording notices) Any one know? Please consult a lawyer in your jurisdiction because the "but some guy told me this is legal on the internet" defense doesn't hold up well. Okay, Federal law requires one party consent for recording phone conversations. Some states require two party consent for any recording. As a general rule it's legal and you're on safe ground to record with your CCTV system but again, please consult a lawyer. Local laws can be very differant.
