rory 0 Posted September 24, 2004 If it makes you feel any better, the remains of Tropical Storm Ivan is getting us now. yeah I noticed, but darn, its 105Mph now, and we havent cleaned up from the last storm yet, one island (Freeport) is still under water, and thousands of people are without jobs from Hotel's closing and other businesses being destroyed ... $100+ million damage from Frances, for a 300K population country and more to come it seems.. worst damage is in the north islands, GB (Freeport), Abaco, Eleuthera, and even in the smaller ones in the south that got the 145mph for 24-48 hours and missed the eye! That said, Haiti is obliviated, hundreds if not thousands dead, thousands missing, an entire island disappeard and people missing, thats the worst hit from this entire season so far, and in many years. And that was from when Jeanne was a Tropical Storm (I think). And the people there already had so little, its sad and unfair, but I guess we dont control the weather. rory 0 Posted September 24, 2004 http://www.thenassauguardian.com/bixex/283423639151125.php here we go... by tomorrow morn we'll have at least 40-50mph winds as its going direct north of us, those other islands are still devestated, they dont even have water, they have to import it and there are lines, basically it is crap situation. They will get the 100mph winds, again.. This season is killing our tourism industry and therefor our overall economy which was already bad, now its real bad, I cant remember the number of hotels that are closed for renovation, but it includes some major ones like Breezes. There are thousands without jobs now, and they were already poor. With this I am sure crime will increase as people have no money for food or water, there are still ,many people living in sheltors who lost their homes, and our government has no money to give anyone, they themselves are borrowing from the UN just for public works. And they claim anoither hurricane to hit us by next week friday!!
rory 0 Posted September 25, 2004 gone, we just had and still have, alot of rain, max 30mph winds in nassau, northern islands got hit hard today, airports closed again from flooding, people were driving big trucks during storm to rescue people, now using boats. these were the same islands who were still without power and water from frances...
