bike_rider 0 Posted August 28, 2007 I don't have any idea how to post the video without using my personal site, so you'll have to take my word for this. The very first camera I put up covered the side of the house behind the garage, where the utility panels are. I figured that if I was going to hit a house I would cut the power and wait for the battery backups to die. We came home on Saturday from a day out and I was reviewing the logs when I noticed that somebody had tripped the motion sensor in the driveway. I hit the quad view and saw this: They pull up and park on the street. A guy jumps out and goes to the front door. He then goes back to the car and they pull down the street a few more feet so they are at the back side of the garage. (Now showing on the back side camera). One guy runs up to the utility panel (great shot of his face), and snaps off the lock on the panel. Unfortunately for him, he jams the panel, so he calls out to the second guy to bring him some pliers. The second guy runs up with the pliers (nice shot of his face). They are starting to get nervous and the second guy starts looking around. You can almost read his lips when he says, "Man they have a video camera." They start to saunter off and the first guy looks over his shoulder at the camera. (Another nice shot). They leave. We roll up 4 minutes later. Weird. The cops were very happy with the video CD and the stills I printed. I've changed the system so that I get an email on my phone when the motion sensors trip. I screwed the utility panel closed. I ordered a couple of big signs "24 Hour Video Surveillance". I'm adding a camera at the front door. I'm thinking about putting the low voltage yard lights on a UPS. I never really thought I'd catch anyone at the utility panel, but there it is. Video system is already on a UPS (as are the cable modem and router) and the alarm system has a battery back up too. I get an email on my phone if the video system loses power. Don't know if the cops will catch them, but the camera sure did scare them away.
VST_Man 1 Posted August 29, 2007 typically "they" will start at the util panel and then work in. I always cover the util panel and DVR install locations. And signs are a huge factor. Thieves always "loiter" prior to the breakin and if they see an easy target they hit it. Post the video if you can.always nice to see the look they have once they notice the cams. by the way, you are lucky that you did not walk into it..........bad scene if you did. do you pack a pistola? common household item these days

jisaac 0 Posted August 30, 2007 one of the funniest things kind of related i have experienced is in the air force's dorm's. Man those dorms have the most need for video surveillance systems of all the buildings on any base. Because those kids are wild! Anyways we put one in a dorm and the kids were trying to get around the cameras. So they go to the breaker and cut the power to the office in which the dvr and entire head end equipment was in. So meanwhile these kids go nuts! I mean like spring break cancun 2 a.m. at the local bar/club, nuts! Little did they know we put the entire system on a different circuit and battery backed up it just in case. Well I cant say exactly what happeaned but lets just say several people were formally kicked out of the military or went to jail or both. And the look on these kids face when the SGt told them that they flipped the wrong switch! Priceless!
