CCTV_Suppliers 0 Posted September 13, 2007 Interesting isn't it how CPU progressed in the last at least 25+ years?... I remember working with 8088 processors and DOS operating systems. Also when IBM released the patent and the Compaq started using the same technology... thereafter, everyone jumped into the business.. Heck, I am waiting to get my hands on the CELL processor with 8 cores and (1) what is called Power processor element and start testing what IBM calls it PROCESSORS PARALLELISM... Intel and AMD are screaming about their quads, but imagine if you can have 8 cores and have applications taking full advantage of each core... I guess Sony is one of the major players using this processor, but they are not taking full advantage as of yet... IBM is already talking about 64 cores based processor that we may see in the next 5+ years... They will go through the next phases of 16 cores and then 32 cores in the next few years... The question always is - which apps are ready now or may be ready later?? Imagine DVRs coming with this type of technology and if the software is written properly, amount of information it can crunch and performance out of this world... I know Bosch and American Dynamics have been kicking around with Quad processor idea, but the cost of the DVRs having this technology is way out in the left field... I am sure they will have some buyers, but for them to consider is a big deal... We will wait and see...
