sue 0 Posted September 16, 2007 I won one of these on ebay, and it's missing a couple of pieces and has a clear bubble with quite a few scratches, a couple of them deep. First question, anyone know if there's any way to rub out those scratches? Secondly, the mounting bracket that attaches to the house was missing. Since the shipping box was damaged, it could have fallen out of the hole in the side. Any idea where I can get one of those for an RHOSW? I'm also missing a couple of foam plugs to keep the moisture out. Any idea what I can substitute with or get more foam plugs? Thanks! Sue
survtech 0 Posted September 16, 2007 Most bubbles are made of acrylic, which is not easy to resurface. You should be able to buy a new lower dome from Sensormatic (American Dynamics?) I would assume that you can also buy the plugs from them.
scorpion 0 Posted September 16, 2007 I have never done it, but someone mentioned that they had fixed some scratches in a dome that they had. I do not know what kind of dome it was. He said that he used some polish that they use on used cars to clean up the "plastic" head lamps. This is the kind where you insert the lamp from inside the engine compartment. I do not know what kind of polish it was, or it's brand name. He owned a used car lot, and maybe someone can recommend what kind it is. He buys used cars, and he used the polish to get the "yellow" out of the headlamps, and make them clear again.
sue 0 Posted September 16, 2007 Ah, yes, like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Meguiars-PlastX-Clear-Plastic-Cleaner-Polish-g12310_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ63702QQihZ001QQitemZ110022360876QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V Thanks. I don't know if American Dynamics sells anything directly to the public, but I'll check their website.
survtech 0 Posted September 16, 2007 Polishing can take care of light surface scratches but if they are deep, forget it. Pelco recommends wax suitable for acrylics to clean their lower domes ftp://www.pelco.com/ServiceBulletinsTechTips/TechTips/5973020.PDF. If the scratches are deep, you really have no choice except to replace the dome. AD has a number of distributors in their chain. Contact them for a list. They also may be able to directly sell you repair parts. Check with them at http://www.americandynamics.net/home/default.aspx.
