Geovision Webcam Connect to Firefox, How To ?

Recommended Posts

I have a GV-800 and the webcam server works fine with IE but does not connect with Firefox. On IE a selection menu is first displayed and then later a password request. On Firefox the password is first requested and when given a window says all video lost.

Aciually I am trying to connect to an Apple conputer and it does the same with Firefox and Safari. With Firefox I can test the interface on my PC so I perfer that solution.

Thanks

I'm thinking you have a trouble with ActiveX then.

You could try running parallels or one of the other 32bit windows on a mac apps. Basically ActiveX is a Windows thing.

Thanks for your response. I don't have enough info to take any action. Let me give a little more detail.

The GV-800 is a video capture card form GeoVision. It comes with a multi-functional program which contains a webcam server. The server works fine with Internet Explorer but not with Safari or FireFox. Safari and FireFox are both available on the Apple/Mac.

The GV-800 software does require and ActiveX download when accesing from a PC. I agree that I may have an ActiveX issue.

The GeoVision is widely used and someone must have wanted to WebCam to an Apple. FireFox is widely used and someone must have wanted an ActiveX simulated interface.

Thanks

ActiveX works great on Windows machines, it does not on Linux or Unix. Geovisions remote client requires ActiveX, that basically means it requires a Windows client.

Firefox on windows works because the Windows API exists and so ActiveX plugins work.

I don't think ActiveX works on Mac, doesn't matter what browser tries to register the ActiveX control.

Might read over.

You need to set the webcam up to save images for java ... also same setting for FTP. So yes it works in FireFox using Java. If your PC has a problem with Java, which is also possible, then it wont work.

ActiveX only works within Firefox on Windows if you have an addon for Firefox that I think has been depreciated.

Or you aren't really using Firefox for that page because you are using the IETab addon that allows you to view a page VIA IE in a Firefox tab.

OK Rory, I was just looking at a system with 8.12 and trying to find the settings to work with Java so that Firefox can be used. Nothing in the Webcam window seems to point to something useful. How about an step by step?

Now if I can just find the time to research the 8.12 upgrade download for the updated GV addons like CenterV2 and RPB Server.
