Actually, why u care ?

For standalone DVR, their sole purpose is to function as DVR.

Regardless of what is their backend os, you are not suppose to and should be fooling with the OS.

They are not meant for u to put in another ftp server, another web server, or run some sub routines, etc.

You should just compare on the features and functionality alone, not on the OS. RTOS, LINUXS, EMBEDDED WINDOWS, as long as they never test their system throughly, all are subjected to error.

I care, if you get a "dedicated" unit it should have a RTOS. Otherwise you should just get a PC based system so you can get parts cheap when needed. Not much point in a dedicated box with embedded Windows.

Based on what I see on your website, you do not offer any DVRs.. Are you trying to feel what platforms that you can introduce in this market that may work for you or you have an application that you want to select a right DVR for your company?

Rory gave you few urls that take you in the forum showing discussions on pros and the cons dependent what platform you may choose... Dependent on your application, sometimes embedded will do the charms and sometimes PC based will, as it comes with more features and functions...

So, what is your question again?

I ask this question, cause we have won a big project, DVR is for Bank use, they need stable DVRs, now we have 5 companies gave us samples for testing, 3 used RTOS and 2 with Linux, most of them has running for half month, but didn't see any problem yet!

Except function a little different, image quality 3 of them are good, with D1 solution playback and realtime. Now I just want know which is more stabel system, just this haven't decision and also this is our customer most care about. May be need long time running just know it!

Stable? Hard to tell, Ive had windows XP DVRs running now for a couple years without a single issue .. ive seen some DVRs crash left and right .. PC and RTOS embedded .. so it really depends on the product and how the software is setup.

That's preceisely what i meant. OS doesn't matter in stability that much.

The whole issues is on the DVR itself.

But funny though... u meant u won the project without specifying what equipments u are using ??

Yeah, I knew what you mean, but this is in China, everything can be change, you know we do business with other country's people is easy, just business, but do business with our people, that is hard, they always want this, want that, nothing is important for them, they just care commision how much! You know bank in China still for government!

But we didn't want to do a project like trash, we are company! So, I should choose a good one to do this!
