Lou19 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Does the Ultra 8 dome work with older I/O boards? I have an Ultra 8 with an outdoor dome and I see no fans at all, just a desiccant bag holder- that’s it? Will an older Ultra work with an Ultra 8 I/O board? The Ultra VIIE have built in motion detection, why doesn't the Ultra 8 offer this feature? If anyone is up on this new dome and has the answers, it would be a great help. Thanks

CCTV_Suppliers 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Does the Ultra 8 dome work with older I/O boards? YES, but if alarm functionality is required then really need a SDU8 IO board. I have an Ultra 8 with an outdoor dome and I see no fans at all, just a desiccant bag holder- that’s it? YES, SDU8 doesn't have anymore an internal fan. Don't need it since now SDU8 is lead free, Rohs Compliant) Will an older Ultra work with an Ultra 8 I/O board? YES, but if alarm functionality is required then really need a SDU8. The Ultra VIIE have built in motion detection, why doesn't the Ultra 8 offer this feature? Motion Detection on SDU8 had issues and was removed from the 1st release. That feature might be added in a future release, no ETA. If anyone is up on this new dome and has the answers, it would be a great help. Thanks Lou19, please find my answers above... Hope they are helpful.
Lou19 0 Posted November 7, 2007 Very helpful, but one more question: Even though there are no fans in the dome or housing, why do the instructions still advise pulling the camera/lens covers from the dome for outdoor housing installation? Looks so unprofessional and less covert, I thought AD would finally address this issue with the Ultra 8.
CCTV_Suppliers 0 Posted November 7, 2007 I do not follow your question, sorry... What do you mean by a'why do the instructions still advise pulling the camera/lens covers from the dome for outdoor housing installation"?
Lou19 0 Posted November 7, 2007 CCTV, Check this out: http://www.americandynamics.net/WebApps/getDocument.aspx?filename=AD_Ultra_8_Installation_Service_Guide.pdf Page 9 under "Caution" Page 21 Figure 19 for reference I suppose they eliminated fans because of noise, but if they knew they had a cooling problem - why drop the fans in the housing? Thanks, Lou

I wish we had a leverage on telling American Dynamics what to do, but...
Lou19 0 Posted November 9, 2007 News flash: There is a fan in the housing, well hidden. Found it tonight doing a bench test. This still doesn't excuse AD from improperly cooling with the camera halves on. Oh well....

valboosky 0 Posted February 28, 2008 Removing the cover was instructed after they found out that it was necessary for the 35x camera to focus properly
alanjh1965 0 Posted February 28, 2008 I was told to remove the lens covers because they tend to work themselves loose and cause scratches to the the Dome housing !
secureconcepts 0 Posted March 9, 2008 Can't get a decent pictute at night from this dome ! Day time: super, everything works. Outdoor setup connected to a geovision systeem. Other camera's with less lux rating (including an Ultra V) get better images from the same scene. Zoomed in on a street lamp (36 w PL light), below the lamp with a gate in front of it). The cam can not focus and does not get a decent picture. Looking at the specs I should get a super picture. According to Tyco the dome is ok (they tested it). I have the feeling that or I am doing something completely wrong or it's defective. Any suggestions ?
