Setting up a PTZ to scan

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any problems setting up a PTZ camera in the GeoVision software and how did you fix it. I currently have a camera at a clients site that doesn't appear to be scanning like I would think they would. This is the first one I have installed, so I am not sure if something was missed. I can manually move the camera with no problems, and I try to setup preset points and still nothing. I tell it to auto scan and it doesn't seem to move, and when I tell it to go to a preset it doesn't. Any ideas??

Thanks,

This is just a wild stab in the dark....and most likely wrong, however perhaps you need to set the PTZ to Pelco D Protocol a lot of PTZ's will support Pelco because it so common, however some of them need to be forced into pelco mode.

I cant remember if D or P is more popular and I dont know the correct baud rates and flow control settings, but also some PTZ's require termination at the end of line, IE if cameras wired in a series then you need to terminate the 485 signal at the last camera!

I don't think I need to worry about the termination of the RS485 signal since I only have one PTZ on the system. As for the rates, etc., I do know that these are default settings from the camera mfgr. I'm pretty sure I set the setting to Protocol D, but I will double check that this afternoon when I swing my client location.

Something tells me it is in the software profiles that is not setup correctly. I can "Set" a preset, but when I tell the system to "Go" to that preset or "Auto Scan" the camera is not moving... I'll keep working on this, and any other advice/ideas are greatly appreciated...

OK, if you can manually control the camera with GV, then the problem is not in the cable or termination or anything like that. Don't waste any time on those.

You are correct, the GV software just isn't sending the right message to the camera to get it to go to a preset. I don't have that camera, so I don't know how the presets are setup. I presume there is some on screen display that you navigate to set them. Is that correct? If so, does the camera go to the presets when you use the OSD? (Again presuming that is how that camera functions.)

I do have an on-screen control panel for the PTZ and there is a setup icon on that display. When I click on that, I have options such as scanning (where I select the auto scan function), "Preset setup" and "Preset Go". Within each preset menu, I have up 12-15 presets I can setup and should be able to go to. I did move the camera to a point I would want as a preset and then set it to preset 1, got the confirmation message and selected "Yes". But for some reason, when I go into the Preset Go menu and select Preset 1, the camera does nothing.. Not sure why...

Does this help at all...?

Ah, that is using the GV system to set the presets. Is there a display on the camera view itself? I think the button is "show" on the setup screen in GV.
