Wireless vs Wired

Recommended Posts

Have an existing house that I want to have at least 4 cameras connected to my inside computer with the ability to have internet access.. being able to view my house remotely from my computer at work (T1 line). My home computer is a 1.5 mhz, 768 ram, XP Pro, Road Runner and getting 2,500 for transfer speed. I will use the computer not only for this but to use for regular internet use poeriodically during the day too. All cameras Viewable inside the house on a 50"plasma, computer monitor, 65" RPTV, 1 36" Sony flat screen, and 2 15" LCD's. I have RG6 running to all of these.

1 camera to be used in the back of the house (at a corner of the house, mounted under the roof and covering 150 feet or so for a fenced in area). If I use 2 in the back, each would be 75 feet

1 at front door (under an overhang)

1 to view my dogs in the laudry room (12 feet)

***Trying to determine if a Wireless Solution may be better..I am worried about the quality of the picture and also how often batteries need changed or recharged? I'm clueless on the wireless approach.

Here is one suggestion for non wireless:

Install 4 Day/Night cameras to locations: 1 Front door, 2 rear (large

>space), 1 in laundry room for viewing dogs. Install a quad processor and

>modulator for viewing on TV's throughout the home. Digiview computer

>monitoring board installed and configured into home computer in den area

>and used as hub for the monitoring system. All wires hidden and discrete

>as possible. Install 2 15inch LCD TV, 1 in kitchen and 1 in Master

>bathroom (left of sinks). Master bath will include IR reciver for changing

>satellite TV channels. RF universal remote used for changing the kitchen

>location sallite programming.

>

>4 CVC-627 Speco 350 lines camera

>*or*

>4 CVC-7705DNV Speco 470 line (optional)

>

>1 R-SE-4C Color Quad Processor

>1 Digiview 4 channel DVR card (EDV ICRA, 60 frames per second)

>1 5425 Channel plus modulator

>2 LC15S1UB Sharp 15 " LCD

>1 MS 100 Niles Flush Mount IR Sensor

>1 URC-9910 One for all All learning RF Remote

>Misc Wires,Connector and Materials that you require to do the job Labor

>Installation and Setup Labor Computer System Setup and Configuration

I am open on the spend for the cameras..have seen $200-500 per camera.. I think I will need to spend more on the rear camera for better resolution and depth of field if I go with only 1 camera.

I believe you could say that if 400+ lines of resolution looks better, most cameras will be that unless the distance is so short I don't need it..see above e-mail for distances

I'm not trying to be cranky, but without knowing the shape of the house the square footage is meaningless. How far would the cable runs be for each camera individually? Can they be run in a straight line, if they curve how much length will it add?

from memory: 100 feet across the back same on front, 50 feet on each side..its a rectangle. Camera on 2nd floor to get the whole back of the house will go straight down 50 feet, across 20 feet and inside 20 feet. The one in the laundry room will go 7 feet down, 75 feet, 25 feet, 20 feet inside. One in the front will go 25 across, 12 across, 6 feet down, 10 into house. If a put a 4th camera in the back, that will go 10 feet down, 100 feet across, 25 feet over and 20 feet inside.

well as for the cameras, get the newer version of those which is the 7706 as it has a mechanical IR cut Filter, means its better color images in the daytime.

Stay clear of the 627's unless you dont mind a less than adequate image, as its not a true Day Night camera.

Also, when using bullets, dont expect the quality to be that of a PRO camera, and especially when using the IR versions, you get what you get, for true Infrared to cover large areas you will need a good 100' plus IR Bulb or LED such as ExtremeCCTV's UF100. Never heard of the one you mentioned there.

I'd wire it. Unless there is a really compling reason the wireless solution would be a little expensive. Those distances are a little short for any real signal loss in either method. The powering wouldn't be a issue since you'd power it from the same centeral source as the cameras, or the same wall outlet area. Probley a central would be easier since you can wire it with the Rg-59.

-Camera on 2nd floor to get the whole back of the house will go straight down 50 feet, across 20 feet and inside 20 feet.

Sounds like a job for a varifocal lens, CVC-7706 would work here.

If you need More infrared, as the IR that the bullets put out say 60' but in reality thats more like 20-40 depending on surrounding walls, etc.

OR if IR is not needed - an Exview Low Light Camera

-The one in the laundry room will go 7 feet down, 75 feet, 25 feet, 20 feet inside.

If this is indoors, you CAN get away with something cheaper if you wanted.

OR if IR is not needed - an Exview Low Light Camera

http://www.spytown.com/provcvc637ex.html

-One in the front will go 25 across, 12 across, 6 feet down, 10 into house.

If you have enough light there : (this is the Front Door one?)

OR in a Dome if it is reachable:

Or you could use one of those IR bullets listed above.

-If a put a 4th camera in the back, that will go 10 feet down, 100 feet across, 25 feet over and 20 feet inside.

same as above, depends on lighting and budget

You may even want to look at whether you want to spend the money on color, as BW would be cheaper all around

I have these outside my appt, and elsewhere, for past 3 years and work great, even went through 2 hurricanes:

If you need assistance on some PRO cameras also let me know, or look at (ignore pricing though as its in Bahamian dollars - its just to give you an idea)

Forgot to mention, I would stay very clear of wireless video unless you really need it, as it would have to be done correct for it to work good, and to do that means it would cost an arm and a leg most of the time, for something that works good and lasts.
