paranoid 0 Posted January 19, 2008 Hi all, Once again im here to ask the advice of this excellent forum Im looking for a standalone dvr that records with a standard codec that can immediately be used on a pc with media player / movie maker etc etc and not one that records to the manufacturers own codec. Im starting a project that will involve editing literally 1000's of hours of captured footage on my pc and then making web based videos from it all. I cannot possibly do it if I first have to download all the footage from the dvr and then use the dvr software to convert it all and then finally be able to work with it on the pc ! Does this dvr exist ? Many thanks.
paranoid 0 Posted January 19, 2008 I meant to say that I have an averdigi 1304 net which is very good, apart from no motion mask, but it takes ages to download to usb key and then it takes forever to use the software to convert to avi or mpeg. Im looking for a dvr like the averdigi that will give me avi / mpeg or divx files straight from its drive. Better still would be if I could get the averdigi .avf codec to use with movie maker or sony vegas. Thanks

VST_Man 1 Posted January 22, 2008 Video Insight PC based software saves the files as AVI and can be used immediately. http://www.video-insight.com
paranoid 0 Posted January 22, 2008 Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that wont help as its just another software solution that wont make the whole process any faster. Heres an example of what I want to do: Download files from averdigi dvr and then be able to play them immediately in windows movie maker without having to convert them first. The ideal soultion would be to get hold of the avermedia .dvr codec and then install it into my windows codecs. Im not sure if I remember correctly but I think you can do this with the geocodec from geovision ? Thanks

cachecreekcctv 0 Posted January 27, 2008 One reason I take my Plextor M402U along with me to customers. Can encode video directly to my Laptop hard drive in many formats, all of which can be played back immediately on my laptop, using Windows Media Player, or made into Video CD. I use this at home a lot also. The model TV402U, with TV tuner, is on sale at Tigerdirect until end of the month. I am using Windows Media Center on laptop, and Windows XP Pro on office PC. Not sure about Windows Vista, as I am happy with my XP systems.

It records directly in AVI format and you can edit it directly in Movie Maker.
