DX7000-16 Replacement?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My DX7000 recently bit the dust. I think it's a motherboard failure but I'm not sure. It doesn't even appear to post when powered up. No signal is ever sent to the screen or keyboard as far as I can tell. The "HD" light stays solid red as soon as the unit is powered up.

I tried the hard drives (all 5 of em') in a Win98 computer and they all pass scandisk fine, except for the boot drive. Scandisk found and repaired a few errors on it. Now it passes a subsequent scandisk.

I can't figure out any way to get into the BIOS, or failing that get it to boot from a startup disk in the floppy drive. Anybody know any tricks here?

If it really is DOA does anyone have a suggestion for an easy swapin replacement? I will need at least 16 channels, 24 would be better as I'm currently maxed out and wouldn't mind adding a couple of cams. I guess the DX8016 is Pelco's current replacement? It's a little pricey, but that doesn't scare me too bad if it's the best fit. Am I missing a better value out there? I'm not very informed on other brands.

TIA for any help!

The pelco unit is very overpriced. Are their any specific features your looking for?

If you want a PC-Based system I would take a look at Geovision or Video Insight.

Learn more about geovision and see a demo at www.geovision.com.tw

Learn more about video insight and see a demo www.video-insight.com

The majority of my clients like video insight better because of the ease of use.

You can check out their web client here: demovi.com

If you want to go for a stand alone unit, you can check out:

GE SecuritySamsungPanasonic

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Edit: Can you please post the make & model of the motherboard if you can get it.

Thanks for the reply. I can't find a silk screened name on the motherboard like I'm used to seeing with computers. There is a small label which near as I can tell says:

Janus 60JA3

FR1B31-1 V3.0

03/09/2001 F4E7

Some of the "1"'s could be "I"'s - it's hard to tell for sure.

As far as features I'm used to with the DX7000, lets see if I can come up with a list:

1)At least 16 channels - 24 would be better

2)Motion Detection - ability to dynamically allocate more FPS to cams with activity. Or only record when motion is present.

3)At least 2 weeks backlog - more if possible. Can be activity only.

4)Easy scene & snapshot recording to CDRW or DVD/RW

5)Remote monitoring via internet

6)Compatible with Pelco Spectra III PTZ cams as well as fixed Pelco cams

7)Current system has a separate KBD300A & Coaxitron translator. Replacement compatible with this?

Fullscreen, Quad, All Camera views.

9)Search by date&time, when there's activity.

10)320 X 240 is fine. Higher resolution would probably kill record capacity?

There's probably something I'm not thinking of, but that's a start.

I have a dx7000 also (a DX7016-180) and I had a known hdd crash, I seen it comming so I purchased a seagate ata66/100 160gb hdd and cloned it now mine boots but needs a system disk (misplaced original). when I cloned the hdd I made a new one but will not accept it.

If you want to swap hdd and see if yours will boot on my hdd and mine on yours, or if you can clone your drive that could work also, with a system disc.

I tried to get replacement hdd from Pelco but they want me to send unit in for repair.

I believe they'll charge w/shipping $800-$1000 to replace hdd for you and diagnose. If its a bad Motherboard it depends

The earlier motherboards w/810 chipset are no longer avail. and not supported. The 815 chipset are still supported by Intel but getting hard to find.

I too, would switch over, but I ALREADY have the Pelco. Is there ANYBODY out there that knows where I can get a Replacement motherboard for this DX7000, or at least one that will work? I do not care about the PELCO support. I thought my problem was the harddrive, as it was in the past, but even my ghost drive didnt work this time. It just sits there and you can hear a bunch of beeps coming from the speaker. Tried re-seating all of the cards, memory sticks and the CPU. Disconnected all of the drives, then removed all of the cards......SAME, just continuous faint beeps.

I am sure it is the motherboard, but this thing has no model #'s on it.

My last resort is trying another power supply, just to try something, and maybe someone will have a motherboard replacement # for me by the time i get back.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

NEVERMIND! I just couldnt wait any longer.

I replaced the original BAD motherboard with an ASUS A7n8x Deluxe.

YES, I had to modify the back piece as the parallel, serial, USB ports locations were a bit different.

I left the ORIGINAL (ghosted) drive in, and Believe it or not, (because I sure as hell don't), turned it on, and Windows 98SE found all of the drivers to accomodate the new board (Less the Gigabit Lan card drivers, I had to reinstall that) .

Yes, Windows had its NORMAL problem with not seeing the cdrom drive, but I just kept clicking away on its NUMEROUS "found new hardware" prompts (I didnt care, I was expecting to load Windows XP anyway). Click after click, and after a few restarts, It came up like a champ! UNBELIEVABLE!

I am not sure if the software would even run on Windows XP or not, but at the point in which I was at, I had nothing to lose!

I was going to try it on XP, but since everything loaded up perfectly, I went with it and ran.

Hope this helps someone ELSE out there that has a Dead motherboard on their DX7000 DVR.

Remember, you have to cut the back panel out to fit the new motherboard (I have a mill, so it was easy and neat for me, but metal shears would work too.

Good luck

I dont recommend this for the Faint of Heart though. This system is for my HOUSE, And is NOT a critical security device with HIGH priority(in a sense of a Business setting. It IS a MAJOR priority to me. I had NOTHING to lose but to TRY it. It WORKED though, so I am willing to take the time and reply all of this stuff to help YOU out. If it DOESNT work for you, dont come yelling at me. I am only posting this as an ACTUAL event and a replacement that I had to go through on my DX7008-60 DVR to get it back up and running. AND, I did it in under 12 hours TOTAL.

I STILL cant believe that the Windows 98SE software that was PRE-loaded on the disk by Pelco found ALL of the necessary drivers to get this replacement Motherboard back up and running.

It REALLY looked skeptical though in the beginning by all of the "Found new hardware" pop-ups, but keep clicking away. BUT let Windows 98SE find its own driver paths! . Just keep clicking on let Windows find the best driver. it will USUALLY be in the c:\windows directory though.

I did NOT add ANY extra drivers to get this motherboard to work!

If you have any questions or ? ? ?, feel free to email me. All of MY Pelco stuff is from Ebay with NO Pelco support whatsoever. I have/had NOTHING to lose by taking the risk. The motherboard went out,. and I wasnt about to spend a bunch of money on something else. I am HAPPY with what I have (even though I would MUCH rather have a 16 camera DVR than the 8 camera that I have, but money holds me back!

Thanks for reading and I hope I was able to help SOMEONE.

AND, you know what? If I WAS able to help you, PLEASE send me an email stating such. This took alot of my time to get this stuff all in order, and If It hasnt helped Anybody, then I wont post anymore. I will just keep all of this . . . ."STUFF". . . . . to myself and take it to the grave with me.

AND, by the way, I have replaced the 60gig drive out with 120gig Seagates (they run cooler + more space) BUT, and I do say BUT, after a couple of months of NOT deleting files, the DVR will lock up (as the byte count is incorrect), and I have to just redo a (Norton) Ghost image back onto the disk (takes 5 minutes if you have a "CLEAN" Ghost image ready. Everything then goes as normal for about three months or so (motion recording).

Again, have any question o
