I just finished a install with 10 of the 10MP cameras. If I am using Arecont I am using the 10MP or 180. Nice images

Vivotek FD8161 2MP at max resolution of 1600x1200, exported directly from Exacq VMS as a .png image.

And another picture with the blinds on the back door opened in the afternoon, which shows the weakness of this camera without WDR.

 

It's not an AMAZING camera or anything, but for the price, I am pretty happy (plus, I am not mounting it facing a window anyways. The photos above are from a test I did of just temporarily setting the camera in my bay window and facing the back door to see how it would handle the sunlight). Definitely a nice upgrade from my analog camera.

Vivotek FD8134 in the basement of an apartment building.

 

There are four 15W Mercury lightbulbs I think putting out 45W of light. It is kind of dim lighting so the noise is very apparent in the photos. Shutter is set to 1/30, brightness and contrast are at 0, quality is set to excellent, exposure 3 and gain is set to +2.

This is my bargin basement 2 Megapixel 2.8mm fixed lens camera. It is about 35 feet high on the top floor but has an awsome picture i think for the price. I had to resize the image down from 1600 x 1200

This is my mobotix camera at my front door. N32 black and white lens on the left. 90 degree D22 day lens on the right. Notice how the black and white lens brightens all the surrroundings up.

 

 

I switched the D32 to a D22, bascially to a 90degree lens for the front door to give me much more view range. It was worth it to see if packages or if anything is left near the front door which I find important. You can see how much extra viewing you get stepping up from the D32 to the D22. Both are wide angle lenses. D32 lens on left, N32 lens on right. Image was saved as a lower resolution than above.

I thought motion blur was the norm for IP cams?

Motion blur is caused by low shutter speeds, period. It has nothing (directly) to do with the resolution of the camera or the transport method used.

 

It may present more in SOME megapixel cameras, because the smaller pixel size (more pixels for the same size sensor as an SD cam) means more light is needed for equivalent exposure, and the easiest way to get that is by slowing down the shutter... motion blur, in that case, is if anything, a side effect of the higher resolution.

 

A "slow" lens (too small an aperture) will lead to blur as well, on ANY camera, because closing down the iris means you need a slower shutter to get the proper exposure. A "faster" lens (f/1.2, for example, lets in twice as much light as f/1.6) can help mitigate the effect. Most of the MP lenses I see that come with cameras (particularly 1/2" cameras) seem to be f/1.6 or f/1.8, while f/1.2-f/1.4 is much more common with "standard" lenses.

It seams that I set shutter on "fixed" on night shots and forgot to set it back to minimum value

I will make new vids, but I have to wait for new camera, that one was sold.
