jeromephone 6 Posted February 8, 2008 We have set up a pelco mini-dome ptz (SD4w1)in a funeral home and have it hooked directly to a sony dvd recorder(DVDirect MC5). The video looks great on the monitor but it is poor on the recorded dvd I am recording in hd format with composite input. I have tried various lighting levels and camera settings and still have a dark line/shadow around people and fixed objects like chairs. I did some test recordings and at some angles it looked as if I had dark glasses on. In the shop I tried a regular camcorder and the video looked much better. I guess the question is can I use the Pelco or do I need to go to something else. What would be the difference between the camcorder and the pelco? Would a conference room camera such as a Sony EVi-D30 be the way to go? Thank you I know this may be a little off topic but would appreciate any help you can give me
mikesus 0 Posted February 8, 2008 Not judging or anything, but people want this recorded?
survtech 0 Posted February 8, 2008 It sounds like you have a "T" in the video feed or have 2 terminations. Is anything else fed off the same camera? If so, disconnect it and see if the problem goes away (leave the connection to the DVD Recorder connected). If that takes care of the problem, remove all "T"'s in the line and install a distribution amp in their place. You should be able to use the Pelco for recording ceremonies but its video quality will probably not be as good as the camcorder's. The Pelco mini PTZ's suffer from a somewhat grainy picture in low lighting and pixellated video when zooming in on a distant subject. A better bet would have been a full-size Spectra IV SE. jeromephone 6 Posted February 8, 2008 I don't think I have any splits or Tees in the line but I will check. Any reccommendations as to other mini ptz cams? As to the question as to why anyone would want to record a funeral service I have no idea. That would be the last thing I would want.
CollinR 0 Posted February 8, 2008 You troubles aren't with the camera its in your encoding and archiving. (Asumming the previsouly mentioned "T" is not present.

Thank you I know this may be a little off topic but would appreciate any help you can give me Its not the encoding, its the signal level... That recorder wasn't really made for the level that is coming out of that PTZ. I would suspect you need a video amp to clean up the signal.
