bobw 0 Posted February 15, 2008 Got a new one of these and wanted to do my first backup to usb. I clicked on channels 1 & 2 as the ones to save and expected to get a quad picture with 2 channels blanked out but all I got was channel 2 on it's own. Do they record one after the other? I had the settings too high and couldn't get it all on the disk so I never got to the end to find out . . . . . On normal playback, it's recorded all four in quad mode. It's just on the back up they don't show. Am I missing something? I must say, I find the manual a bit inadequate. Many thanks Bob
Kiwi 0 Posted February 15, 2008 As far as I can tell the interactive playback off the DVR using the buttons, either to video out or viewed over the network, is MJPEG. That's why you can get 4-cut or single channel played back in real time, and that's why the quality is pretty average. When you "backup" either to CD, USB, or over the network to disk, you get MPEG4 quality - but only one channel at a time. The PC has to do the MPEG4 decoding to get the real time playback. Those are your only options with this DVR. Hope that helps.
scorpion 0 Posted February 17, 2008 What happens when you click on channel 1 only?
Daryl733 0 Posted February 17, 2008 We'd encouter some backup prob with certain USB Thumbdrive. One of which is the Sony Thumbdrive. It comes with internal compression. Think it mess up the recording, was always only enable to record only 1 channels even if we select 2, 3, or 4 channels. Switching to another thumbdrive for backup solve the problem. But backing up using thumbdrive seems to take forever, slower than realtime. i.e. 1 min of video takes > 1 mins.
bobw 0 Posted February 17, 2008 I've tried it on CD as well but still only got one channel. The back up function gives you the choice to save up to four channels at once. If the hard drive has recorded and can play back in quad mode, surely, you should be able to copy what's on the hard drive . . . .
