Recommended Posts

install 8.2 (use original cd) and see if it runs. If yes, very likey original.

yes you are in right even 8.0( with original cd) do not work on fake gv.

I have one fake gv I will picture and put the large pic. on this forum. so every body can see the difference.

Thanks for this useful information Brankorackovic.

One thing I wanted, was to buy an original, used GV product, and I think I finally got it.

It is in the mail and yes, I bought it off ebay.

The folks at Geovision were great at responding to my questions and were able to verify that the card was legit. from the barcode info.

Of course, fake cards may use a genuine barcode number (who knows?),

So maybe it's not 100%. To be sure, you have to go through a reputable dealer, but I wanted a deal, so I'm taking my chances.

I paid $200 for the GV-800, which I think is a deal if the card is a newer one (seller stated that warranty was still valid).

The reason for sale seemed good too - "pulled for a replacment 8 channel card".

I have a question about this Dongle I hear about. Is this for a particular hardware or software product from Geovision? If so, which one?

Thanks!

I'll keep y'all posted when I get and install the card and do a software verification.

I'm looking forward to using a quality product.

PS. I'm assuming a Sony EVI-D30/31 camera is supported, since it uses the same visca interface as the D100 - right?

Pete.

The card has been up & running for a couple of weeks and is 100% genuine.

No system hangs. Runs 24/7 in my attic

Also doubles as a backup file system, with all my design work (pcb's) and associated stuff (20 years of libraries), gettting auto saved there every day.

Only have two cams on it right now and pretty happy with the setup, including the Geovision support of the PTZ Sony EVI-D30.

Wish there was away to turn on & off the camera automatically though...

Love the motion detection s/w - very controllable. Used Yawcam before which gave a lot of false alarms.

Worth buying the card just for the s/w.

But the software did take a bit of getting used to, esp. remote viewing etc. Just confused by the fact you need to enable Webserver from a couple of different screens.

Also using UltraVNC, which gives me 100% control over the whole computer from any other computer.
